[Review] Redire - Get the Old iOS 5 Camera Button Back On iOS 5.1
If you are not a fan of the iOS 5.1 camera grabber on the lock screen, then you now have the ability to change back to the iOS 5.0.1 and iOS 5.0 camera button-style lock screen Camera application launcher with a new free jailbreak tweak dubbed Redire
by iOS developer Ron Melkhior
. It makes the camera button appear after you double-press the home button on the lock screen.
’s free jailbreak tweak, Camera Grabber for iOS 5
, brings the iOS 5.1 camera grabber to older iOS versions, however this tweak does just the opposite. The camera grabber is a nice way to launch the Camera application, requiring less actions from the user to get the Camera application open, however this is also the downfall of the camera grabber feature, as people could inadvertently open the Camera application quite easily.
The lock screen camera button, in contrast to the camera grabber, requires a double-press of the home button, which offers more of a fail-safe against accidents. It also brings up the lock screen’s iPod controls, where the camera grabber could launch the Camera application without showing the iPod controls.
Being able to enjoy Redire means that you either have to hate the camera grabber or prefer the camera button more. Most of the public has made it pretty clear that they enjoy the camera grabber more, however the having the option to revert is always an advantage of jailbreaking. The tweak is free, so if you’re running iOS 5.1, then give it a try. This tweak should not be installed on any other iOS firmware and there are no options to configure.
