  • [Review] ResetAllKiller - Disable the 'Reset All' Buttons From Settings

If you didn’t know this already, iOS comes with reset buttons in the Settings application (shown in the screenshot above) for erasing content and putting your iOS device back to its factory configurations. Unfortunately, if you’re a jailbreaker, these buttons are very dangerous to use and will put your device into an unusable state until you restore it and re-jailbreak it all over again.

A new free jailbreak tweak dubbed ResetAllKiller by iOS developer Lunatik will go in an disable the use of those ‘Reset All’ buttons so they can’t be tapped on to invoke their devastating effects on an iOS device. In turn, you will have more peace of mind knowing that your device cannot be accidentally screwed up in the respect of resetting it from the Settings application.

If you are not using a jailbroken iOS device, then the ‘Reset All’ buttons will work just fine with your iOS device and will not put it into an unusable state. This is only a precaution for jailbreakers, so non-jailbroken devices do not have anything to fear about using their ‘Reset All’ buttons from the Settings application.

There are no options to configure for this jailbreak tweak and if you want to re-enable the ‘Reset All’ buttons from your Settings application at any point in time, for whatever reason, then you can simply uninstall this jailbreak tweak from Cydia and they will be enabled once more. This tweak will work with both iOS 4 and iOS 5 and it’s quite a good precaution to have.

If you have absolutely no fears about accidentally using your 'Reset All' buttons, then you probably will not need to install this tweak.

Wish someone would of tole me this before trying to reset everything on my old jail broken iPhone prior to selling it! Had to take a train to my local apple store to get them to restore the sucker.

But yeah, this tweak does seem pretty redundant if the person knows enough to actually want this.

actually its quite a handy little "tweak" as i have in the past hit one of those randomly tapping away and completely buggering up my jb device.
i never understood why apple decided to stick them at the top of the list rather than putting them some where scroll needed and out the way.

Of course not. This is very useful if you're a parent and your kids sometimes toy with your iphone.

I'm impressed there was not already a tweak like this.

Sorry but if a person is that stupid that they push that particular button then they deserve to have their JB wiped out. I believe the app is not needed but I won't trash it as I don't have the ability to make any app.

Thanks for helping me make my point.

I guess this is the ONLY reason a logical thinking person may need this app.... but a child that doesn't know the boundries when using any electronic device probably shouldn't be using the device. (i.e. which buttons/apps can and can't be used)

I guess you guys don't get the point of why I wrote this so let me just spell it out.

      1. It educates everyone that using those reset buttons is a bad thing. There has been countless times on various irc networks where people would complain that they used a reset then their device wouldn't boot only because they weren't aware that it wipes various things that gets moved around when you jailbreak.

      2. It's only meant to be extra protection from "accidently" hitting the wrong button. If you do need or want access to those buttons either go into safe mode then the buttons will be enabled or uninstall the tweak.

As a side note. just because a tweak doesn't fit your needs doesn't make it a dumb tweak. Yes there are some "dumb" tweaks but there is no reason to go bashing something that doesn't fit your needs. For those who have installed this has provided me positive feedback and has thanked me for providing such a tweak. Even those who are already aware that the reset buttons are bad to use they still like the extra just in case protection.

this tweak is great. infact, every jailbreak should implement this by default. there are many people out there who would have NO IDEA that using those reset buttons whilst jailbroken will require a restore. how are people supposed to know? theres no warning in the jailbreak app readme files..no pop ups..the only way people can know is by experience, word from another jailbreaker or this article (and it's respective tweak). I commend the dev for this tweak. it is a must for /every/ rookie jailbreaker. I'm even going to install incase one of my mates tries to screw with me..

Don't those buttons pop up a confirmation dialog (with a big red button) in case you accidentally hit one?

FACT! People who need this tweak are too dumb to have a jailbroken iPhone.

There is no way to accidentally go into the reset menu and hit the reset all settings button.

We are talking about a phone that can call ANYONE, text ANYONE, make purchases online by clicking apps like ebay and pressing buttons.............. There is no excuse for a child that reckless to have your phone, therefore defeating this app's need to exist.

Reset All Settings does NOT erase your jailbreak. I just recently used it when my phone wasn't connecting properly to the 3G server..
Sometimes iPhones loose the ability to send data over 3G when a preference file gets corrupted, and Reset All Settings is the only way to fix it if Reset Network Settings doesn't work.

      Yes!
And you have to tap the big red button TWICE for it to go through!
Note: iPod Touch and iPhone has red buttons that pop up to confirm that you want to do this.. The iPad has normal navy-blue dialogue buttons that come up, but you still have to confirm TWICE!!

Someone really wasted their time with this tweak...

this tweak is to stop people who want to use these reset buttons PURPOSELY whislt jailbroken, who DO NOT know the consequences of it. of course the red warnings come up, but if you want to reset these settings, no warnings will stop you
