  • See If Your Mac Has the FlashBack Trojan - Easy Way

In the recent scares of the FlashBack Trojan for Mac OS X, people have been wondering whether or not they have contracted it. There are some pretty simple Terminal commands to follow if you want to check whether you have it or not, however if you simply canít understand how to use Terminal or you donít want to risk a typo that could damage your system, then you can use this free alternative.

Itís an application written to be a graphical user interface for doing the same thing the Terminal would do if you were entering the commands for seeing whether or not you have the FlashBack trojan. With the simple interface, you click a button and the application tells you if you are infected with the FlashBack trojan or not. The application is free (for Mac only) and can be downloaded here.

To run the application after downloading it, double-click on the zipped folder you download to extract its contents and then double-click on the application file that appears. This is the application that will look to see if you are infected or not. If you do not have the trojan on your computer, "No Signs of infection were found" will be displayed in the information box. If it displays anything else, you could be at risk. This free application cannot remove the FlashBack trojan; it can only let you know if you have it or not.

If you do not have the trojan, then make sure you go to >Software Update to ensure you have the latest Java patch installed. This will help safe-guard you from being able to get infected by the FlashBack trojan as Apple released two Java updates in the late couple of weeks addressing the vulnerability. Additionally, you can download a free Anti-Virus application to better protect yourself against threats Ė we recommend Sophos as itís free and reliable.

Totally thought the same thing. Why not prey on fear with a tool to check for said fear.

Always have littlesnitch installed first thing and always had ClamXAV myself. Was happy when I first saw they said this thing looked for littlesnitch first thing. Also I always update flash directly from Adobe than the update notification that pops up.

Lol! I also thought that this was a way of infecting us with a trojan! Let us think that we're getting scanned for it, but really it's putting it on our comps! Good to see everyone else felt the same way! Haha!

If this was the case we wouldn't have written about it.

You can perform the Terminal commands after running this tool if you'd like. It's clean.

all that proves is that you're clean from the one virus you're checking. it's possible that the app could theoretically install a different unknown virus.

Lol I know why you wrote the article, I understand it's clean and everything. It was just funny how everyone suspected the scanning program as the thing that would infect our comps!

Wouldn't be the first time it has happened though.
