  • How To: Jailbreak the Verizon iPhone 4 with greenpois0n RC5 beta 4

I posted earlier today about how I was able to jailbreak the Verizon iPhone 4 with an updated greenpois0n. Well, in no time at all, the update is now live and will jailbreak your brand new Verizon iPhone, and any other iDevice on firmware 4.2.1.

NOTE: The new version (RC5 Beta 4) is currently only available for Mac OS X available for both Windows and Mac OS X now!
    • Step One: Head to greenpois0n.com and download the newest version
    • Step Two: Attach your iPhone to your computer, close iTunes if it opens.
    • Step Three: Open the greenpois0n app and follow the instructions for putting your device in DFU mode
    • Step Four: greenpois0n will recognize the device in DFU, and run its code, allowing for an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone. The phone will reboot after finishing, however, it will now have an animated boot logo that starts with the apple logo and morphs into the greenpois0n logo.
    • Step Five: On your springboard, you should find an app called 'Loader' which will download and install Cydia. Cydia might not appear directly after Loader finishes. A reboot worked for me.
    • Step Six: Open Cydia, and install updates as needed! Enjoy your jailbroken Verizon iPhone 4!!

Let us know, if you have any problems, or if something doesn't work as indicated.

You may find that some Cydia apps may not run perfectly yet, since the Verizon iPhone uses a modified firmware compared to the GSM version. It is expected that the two versions will sync up when iOS 4.3 is released. But for now, enjoy the jailbreak!

      Hey Gang,

I read this entire thread before I decided to give it a try. Verizon 4.2.6 and it was very easy on my Macbook.

Thanks for all the information and I look forward to understanding completely what this will allow me to do on my new iPhone 4.

I read the comments about the 'must have apps' and will check into them.

      Thanks
      Andy

When I tried to get parallax it says it isn't recommended for 3G devices. Do you know why?

It means not recommended for iPhone 3G. Probably because it cant handle it as well.

"I have yet to be able to get this to work. I follow the instructions, and all i get is "try again". what gives?

also, as soon as i'm done with holding "home" for 15 seconds the phone goes dead and i need to restore it with itunes. it will not do anything, i can't even turn it on, i have to go back into itunes and start over. it has 4.2.1, with 5.11.07."

i am having the same issue with no luck whatsoever i tried a millioon times- but nothing- except when screen wont respond i dont restore with itunes i just hold power and home till phone resets

i have been getting to the "jailbreak" button after supposedly putting it in DFU mode (no usb to itunes logo) and then click jailbreak. It sits for a few seconds then jumps to the end and sits some more only to fail (have admin mode turned on and xp mode)

edit- and when i put it in dfu mode not using greenposions count down it actually shows the usb to itunes logo

I am able to JB the 4.2.6 except for the 4.2.5

i am having trouble with 4.2.5 and it wont update because of a network problem? & when I JB the loader crashes. Any suggestions?

So I got my iPhone to jailbreak but when it comes to the loader I get nothing. It says "loading sources" and thats all i get.

Just for fun I tried to JB my 4.2.1 iPod touch and everything went fine. I DID notice the loader took a long time to have Cydia show up as an option. So, I don't know what going on. I know I'm not the only one with the loader issue.

That can happen if the server is down or experiencing issues.

      Hello,

I just got a Verizon Iphone for work and they have it locked down from the app store and almost everything. Is there a way I can hack this thing and open it up? Itís kind of pointless in my eye. I went from a Black Berry that was wide open to a locked down Iphone that I can only call, email, text and browse the web. If I can hack can you restore back to how it is today?

      Please help.

Dunno about restoring it back to a locked down version. I'd try greenpois0n and if you have to restore and it gets stuck, just say it crashed! You won't get fired over it would you?

I don't know if I'd try to hack a work-issued device...employers often have funny ideas about that.

If ur phone has a Restrictions password (Settings.app - General - Restrictions), here's a way I found to retrieve it! I have confirmed this on two devices tonight!!!

Remove the Restriction Password - iPhone Forum

The 662bc19.... file apparently exists on most devices (at least on my ip4 and iPad)

After all the 'readable' stuff, the NEXT line should look like random code. In that line will be a four-digit number possibly with letters in front of it. That should be your Restrictions password!

Another way to find the number: scroll to the bottom - you will see random letters/numbers at the very left of the screen. Now scroll up to where those letters/numbers begin and you will see a line of letters or numbers that are widely spaced. 5-6 lines (including this line) above this will be the line that has the four-digit password.

Let us know if this works!

BTW, I just started a new thread on this find. Here's the link and a screenshot:
Retrieve - Find - Change - Remove iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch RESTRICTIONS Password!

I tried your recommendation and could never find a 4 digit password in that file. Then I found that the restrictions were off anyways. It looks like itís not a restriction thing, possibly a profile lockdown. The restrictions password isn't on. But itunes and installing apps is off no matter what. Any recommendations?

No ideas now. I've never looked into how a company restricts iPhones so I have no knowledge about that. Anyone else???
