  • How To: Jailbreak the Verizon iPhone 4 with greenpois0n RC5 beta 4

I posted earlier today about how I was able to jailbreak the Verizon iPhone 4 with an updated greenpois0n. Well, in no time at all, the update is now live and will jailbreak your brand new Verizon iPhone, and any other iDevice on firmware 4.2.1.

NOTE: The new version (RC5 Beta 4) is currently only available for Mac OS X available for both Windows and Mac OS X now!
    • Step One: Head to greenpois0n.com and download the newest version
    • Step Two: Attach your iPhone to your computer, close iTunes if it opens.
    • Step Three: Open the greenpois0n app and follow the instructions for putting your device in DFU mode
    • Step Four: greenpois0n will recognize the device in DFU, and run its code, allowing for an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone. The phone will reboot after finishing, however, it will now have an animated boot logo that starts with the apple logo and morphs into the greenpois0n logo.
    • Step Five: On your springboard, you should find an app called 'Loader' which will download and install Cydia. Cydia might not appear directly after Loader finishes. A reboot worked for me.
    • Step Six: Open Cydia, and install updates as needed! Enjoy your jailbroken Verizon iPhone 4!!

Let us know, if you have any problems, or if something doesn't work as indicated.

You may find that some Cydia apps may not run perfectly yet, since the Verizon iPhone uses a modified firmware compared to the GSM version. It is expected that the two versions will sync up when iOS 4.3 is released. But for now, enjoy the jailbreak!

I just did my iPad last night. Make sure you:
      1. Plug in your device to the computer
      2. Hold down the Sleep button and Slide to Power Off
      3. Open GP and hit Jailbreak. *Have your iPad in-hand and ready to go!
      4. The countdown begins from 5-1
      5. When you get to '1,' start holding down the Sleep button
      6. Follow the rest of the on-screen instructions (eg. Hold both -> release Sleep but still hold Home)
      7. The jailbreak should initiate at around 3-4 seconds left on the last sequence

Download/Use RecBoot to see if it will kick you out of Recovery Mode. Let us know, k!

RecBoot is a program to get your iPhone out of Recovery Mode (USB Plug/iTunes image on iPhone homescreen) when/if an error occurs. Updating can cause an error as well as several other things. The above link can tell you more about it.

....I have not used it but TinyUmbrella has a feature that does the same thing as RecBoot.

RecBoot or TU is a must have program for jailbreakers!!!

That's not a concern! U can't brick it and you can restore as many times as you want!

Okay, here's what I have read:

-Try to first JB with redsn0w.
      Mac: https://sites.google.com/a/iphone-de...edirects=0&d=1

Windows *for Vista and 7, run as Administrator in XP Mode : https://sites.google.com/a/iphone-de...edirects=0&d=1

      -Get the 4.2.6 IPSW:
      http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/04...0_Restore.ipsw

-Run redsn0w and follow instructions to JB
-Once ur JB, run greenpois0n so u can be untethered

      Let us know!

@Verizon iPhone 4, have you tried greenpois0n W/OUT putting ur phone into DFU mode? I never put mine into DFU mode for my ip4 or my iPad and GP worked flawlessly (on Mac).

      Just curious...

greenpoison requires dfu mode for it to work.

What I meant to say was that I didn't put it into DFU mode prior to running GP. I plugged in the phone then turned it off before I started the jailbreak.

      Sorry bout the confusion!

I was wondering from ViP4 if he was Pre-DFU moding (if thats a word!) his phone before running GP

It should't matter, but it is best to put it in dfu by following the countdown.

I know with the previous GP I could put it in DFU mode prior to running GP and it would bypass the 'countdown' step but I don't know about this most recent release.

Since ViP4 is having problems, I'm trying to come up w/ alternate solutions.

Did you ever have an iPhone before?

If so, r ur host files changed or did you ever have WiFi Sync installed? Both of those can create a problem...

Also, r u talking about the steps for redsn0w or GP?
