  • [Review] ColorClock - Spice Up Your Lock Screen Clock Display

    Above colors: 177, 255, 164; 230, 138, 37.

The iOS lock screen gives us a very clean and professional look, but maybe it's too professional at times. It’s minimal and gives us a nice large display of the current time and also shows us the date right under the time. The appearance of the clock is unfortunately not customizable by the end user. A new free jailbreak tweak dubbed ColorClock by iOS developer Rudolf Lichtner brings us the ability to individually change the colors of both the clock and the date on the iOS lock screen dash.

ColorClock doesn’t slack with customization; in fact, it has an unlimited variety of colors at your disposal. Instead of a color picker, which would be limited to a list of pre-defined colors, the developer of ColorClock gives you two RGB sliders. One slider is for setting the color of the lock screen’s clock and the other slider is for adjusting the color of the lock screen’s date. The good news is that changing the colors is immediate and doesn’t require a respring or any kind of reset to take effect. You’ll find the RGB sliders in the Settings application from the ColorClock preferences pane:

The ounce of customization and the interface the tweak encompasses is so minimal, however appealing, that ColorClock is one of those tweaks any iOS customizer would love to have installed on their device. It doesn’t cause any lagging from the lock screen and even better news is that it doesn’t require WinterBoard to use. If you prefer the white appearance the iOS dash already has by default, then ColorClock probably isn't for you.

ColorClock can be used to bring out the colors of a very nice wallpaper you might have on your lock screen, or it can be used to simply bring some fun colors to the lock screen’s time dash. Whatever the use might be, this is a great tweak to have being that it’s free and doesn’t seem to conflict with other tweaks. I was not able to find any bugs with it when trying it. Check it out.

This is actually a tweak I think I could really like.

How does one see what they're doing? I've installed the tweak and can move the sliders, however there's no indication of what you're actually doing.

As far as I can tell, you must exit the settings, check your lock screen, and return over and over, until you get what you're going for.

      Lovely.

The colors are in RGB so can use the sliders on this site to find the color you want, then drag the sliders on your device to the positions of that color. Of course though, I agree that tweaks like this should show a preview on the settings page.

springtomize will do it... but since it's free why not take a try?

This tweak killed my battery life. As soon as I removed it and charged my phone the battery use was back to normal.
