  • Apple MacBook Pro Production Cycle to Mirror Intel Ivy Bridge Release

Digitimes is reporting Apple will begin mass production of a new 15-inch MacBook Pro in Apri and follow-up with production of a new 13.3-inch model sometime in June.

The report mirrors a news earlier today that Intel will releasing their Ivy Bridge Processors two waves starting in April. The First wave will be faster power-hungry desktop and mobile processors, while the second wave in June will be slower but, conserve more energy-efficient. The Digitimes report seems to mimic this timeline exactly, which is odd considering Digitimes reported earlier this month that both the 13-inch and 15-inch models had already entered production and would lack optical drives like the MacBook Air.

The report claims Apple will start the 15-inch MacBook Pro production capacity between 100,000 and 150,000 units and rise gradually. Separate sources have told AppleInsider that Apple will start blurring the lines between the MBA and the Pro line of laptops.

Whatever Apple’s plans, the company will not introduce the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro models at different times. If the staggered production schedule is true, then expect the 15-inch MBP to sit on factory shelves until the 13-inch models are ready. However, Apple has introduced the 17-inch MBP at a later date before. Also, the staggered processor release will not likely affect Apple as the company is notorious for getting new Intel chips before other manufacturers and the public.

Here are the Ivy Bridge Processors slated for release at the end of April:

These will follow in June (note, most prices not leaked yet):

I hate to be picky, but the bold should be changed to "conserve more energy" or "more energy-efficient". Having both is a redundancy that doesn't really make sense.

"The report mirrors a news earlier...'' The "a" isn't necessary. "Intel will releasing"-Does Swanson ever check what he's written? It's sad, but I actually pass over his articles do to his poor writing. I have gone so far as to ask site admins how this stuff gets published, and whether he owns word processing software. Look at any of his articles at random, and you're bound to find several problems.

I almost forgot, hey Essany? Where did you get this information? Swanson, you could have called this a retraction, but you didn't write the aforementioned article, Michael did.
