  • Tivizen Lets You Watch Over-the-Air TV on Your iPad

Have you ever wanted to watch TV on your iPad, but couldn’t because you weren’t in range of a Wi-Fi or 3G signal? At this years CES, Korean manufacturer Valups has announced that it will be releasing the Tivizen, a device that attaches to an iPad’s 30-pin dock connector. It will allow you to watch regular over-the-air Digital TV broadcasts. The device uses its own battery and gives you about 2 hours of viewing time.

The Tivizen will be available for $99 starting in June and requires a free app to operate. You may not be able to get as many channels as you would like, but the device should be able to pick up the major networks in your area. The Tivizen doesn’t require a Wi-Fi or 3G signal to operate, so if you’re in a remote location you can still catch a show or two.

Although the Tivizen has been demoed on an iPad, the Tivizen Mobile TV Viewer for ATSC-M/H app, in the App Store, does show that it’s compatible with the iPhone and iPod Touch as well.

At first glance the Tivizen may not look like a very compelling product. There is currently so much video content available, from Netflix to Hulu Plus and others, that some might question the usefulness of such a product. After all, most people are never too far away from a signal of some kind, nowadays. If you like to go camping, however, and are isolated from any kind of signal, then having a Tivizen might make a cold night go by faster. You can go to the middle of nowhere and not have to miss the latest episode of House. I can also see how the Tivizen would be quite handy to have around during an emergency

With Wi-Fi popping up in more and more location everyday, and cell signals almost everywhere, the Tivizen might be too late to the party for anyone to be interesting in it for very long. Still, if I was stuck in the middle of nowhere and wanted to watch some TV, I wouldn’t mind having one of these along with me.

Good idea, but too expensive. It will be on sale at TigerDirect or NewEgg by summer.

I could use this on Sundays coming back from road trips to get NFL and NBA games on Fox, CBS, and ABC

It's a really cool design and idea but too much money and I don't really watch tv, just watch them later on the Internet
