[Review] Bars - More Accurate Signal Strength Indicator
Do you feel like the iPhone’s signal indicator is too liberal on its readings? Does the signal strength seem a little too high for the cellular performance you’re getting? A new free jailbreak tweak dubbed Bars
by iOS developer phoenix3200
promises more accurate signal strength indicator readings by allowing fractions of the bars to appear to indicate more precise and conservative readings.
As you can see pretty clearly from the images above, not the entire fourth bar is being shown. Instead, just a fraction of it is. Depending on your signal strength, Bars will chop your signal strength indicator bars down to size to give you the correct signal reading instead of inaccurately giving you an entire set of, for instance, 4 bars if you have about a 3.5 bar signal. In other words, it shows every little increment. It doesn’t just work with the fourth bar; it works with all of the last three. If you're still confused, the image below will give you an idea of what Bars does and how dynamic its signal readings are:
Bars is a great free jailbreak tweak. Not only does it help your iPhone do something better, but it also gives you a more realistic feeling for your atmosphere by letting you know how much signal strength you’re truly getting at any point in time. This jailbreak tweak proves that the iPhone is capable of much more accurate signal readings and makes us wonder if there's something going on between the carriers and Apple to give the signal strength a more liberal reading.
I highly recommend Bars for any iPhone users who want a more accurate signal reading. If you aren't one to really care too much about your signal strength, then Bars probably isn't for you. Bars was created for the curious mind looking to learn more about their signal strength by providing you a way to toy around with it more often. It's free, so give it a try.
UPDATE: Bars will now work fine on non-retina devices.
