Harrods Technology Department Debuts in the U.K. Along with new iPad
The popular upscale U.K. department store, Harrods of London, announced on Thursday that its new “Harrods Technology” department will be opening its doors on Friday to launch the third-generation iPad.
The official opening of the Harrods Technology department is going to take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 16. It is meant to coincide with the worldwide launch of Apple’s new iPad according to the store’s official Twitter feed and the department is said to even include a so-called “Apple Shop.” The store-within-a-store will be joining other electronic manufacturers such as LG, Samsung, Sony, and others on the third floor of Harrods’ world-famous Knightsbridge store. It is also said to feature standalone boutiques for high-tech brands such as Bang & Olufsen and Porsche Design.
As of right now, it isn’t clear whether Apple will get its own separate retail space or if it will be similar to U.S. Best Buy locations where Apple has a relatively undefined area for its products.
While Harrods opens its doors in the U.K, Apple Stores worldwide are expected to open their doors at 8 a.m. on Friday to a large number of eager customers hoping to get their hands on the new iPad. The rollout will take place in ten countries including Australia, Canada, France Germany, Hong Kong, Japan Singapore, Switzerland, the U.K, and the U.S along with availability in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The mega-retailer Walmart
also said that it would be selling the tablet at 12:01 a.m. at its 24-hour U.S. locations.
