  • iPad 'Daily' May Arrive January 17th

Rupert Murdoch is bringing the "Daily" to the iPad next month. News Corp. will officially launch the digital publication on or around January 17, All Things Digital reported on Friday. Of course, this isn't the first time we've heard a "concrete" launch date for the "Daily," which is being hyped as a publishing revolution. Despite the previous delays, however, all signs now point to a January 2011 launch.

The Daily is supposed to use a new “push” subscription feature from Apple, where iTunes automatically bills customers on a weekly or monthly basis, and a new edition shows up on customers’ iPads every morning.
News Corp. has reportedly interviewed and subsequently hired scores of journalists for the new offering, about which few substantive details are known. It is believed that the digital publication will be released daily at a cost of 99 cents per week. The "Daily" will be multimedia-driven with no shortage of original video packages to add some "zest" to the publication.

Most publishing and tech analysts believe that a successful launch for the "Daily" - a digital read available as an application - will usher in a new era for digital readers like the iPad - an era in which subscription based daily publications explode both in number and in popularity.

If a lot of different companies were to get into this it would be amazing. I spend a lot of time reading news all day but if it was formated in a unique way and was more interactive than the plain old digital copies of regular magazines from Zinio I would gladly pay $4 a month for it. I can't wait to see how it pans out!

Problem is, it's another Murdoch organ, which has tended to be more dis-information than actual news. I don't see any value in purchasing something that makes me stupid.

^^true that, but its a great idea in my opinion. 4 dollars a month is not bad at all, i wish some of the mag apps would bring there prices down some, i mean a dollar a week for 31 papers versus 3 to 5 dollars for a monthly mag is a big difference
