  • Refurbished iPod Deals at Woot.com, and Sellout.com

Woot.com, the originator of the daily-deal website, has two deals on refurbished iPod Touches today.

Woot.com currently has refurbished models of the current generation 8GB iPod Touch (white and black) available for $154.99 which is $45 below the retail price of a new iPod.. This is $14 below Apple’s refurbished price of $169. Apple also only has black refurbished models available.

Sellout.com, the joint venture between Woot.com and Yahoo, has the current generation 32GB iPod Touch (black only) for $229 which is $70 below the retail price. Apple has the same refurbished model for $249.

While Woot.com and its partner site Sellout.com offer cheaper refurbished solutions for prospective iPod Touch buyers, they do offer inferior return policies. Refurbished items purchased through Apple’s online store come with the same 1-year manufacturer’s warranty other Apple products come with. The cheaper Woot counterparts come with a “90 Day Woot Limited Warranty” which covers the device in case of manufacturer defects.

Still, these are the cheapest prices for current generation iPod Touches, new or refurbished.

I prefer buying a brand new ipod for around 50 dollars more rather than a refurbished ipod with only 3 months waranty

I wonder if the refurbished iDevices was the cause for the overheating battery that has been rarely reported worldwide.

For $15-20 more you're better off getting it from Apple with a full year warranty instead of 3 months. Also, I guarantee the Apple refurbs are better.

I once bought a refurb iMac from a non-Apple seller because it was cheaper and only 90 day warranty. I quickly found out why they were selling it: it had a malfunctioning fan that liked to run full blast randomly until I turned it off. Sent it back and got an Apple refurb that might as well have been brand new.

Apple, unlike most companies, does not let sub=par products go to refurb sales. It's all new condition.

      Counterpoint:

I got a new iPod 4g last year, used until it developed screen problems (10 months in), replaced it under apple care just within the 12month limit with a refurb.

Battery life on the replacement unit is significantly degraded.
It's actually WORSE than the year-old battery in my original device.
Either they gave me a used and already depleted battery,
or an unused one that had been sitting on the shelf and exposed to heat stress /etc.

      It's still quite usable.
after 12 months, battery capacity had dropped to around 80%, and the replacement is somewhere near 60-70% (3 months after replacing). I haven't really heard anyone else complain so maybe I just got unlucky.

But if you get a refurb, try to make SURE the battery is healthy, within the warranty period. No matter who sold it to you. If battery is NOT covered by the warranty, don't buy a refurb, even from Apple.

Agreed, I bought a 2011 MBA refurb directly from Apple and it was pristine! Saved about $200 plus I get the regular warranty... can't go wrong.
