    [WARNING: Jailbreakers should NOT upgrade to iOS 5.1 until a corresponding jailbreak is released)

    In what amounted to the first formal announcement at Apple's media event today, Tim Cook revealed that iOS 5.1 (for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) is now available for OTA download.

    In addition to addressing bugs affecting battery life, the 189MB update delivers a number of significant tweaks and improvements. Most notably, there's voice dictation support for the iPad, an updated Camera app, and the ability to delete photos from Photo Stream.

    All told, here's what iOS 5.1 delivers:

    - Japanese language support for Siri (availability may be limited during initial rollout)
    - Photos can now be deleted from Photo Stream
    - Camera shortcut now always visible on Lock Screen for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (4th generation)
    - Camera face detection now highlights all detected faces
    - Redesigned Camera app for iPad
    - Genius Mixes and Genius playlists for iTunes Match subscribers
    - Audio for TV programs and films on iPad optimized to sound louder and clearer
    - Podcast controls for playback speed and a 30-second rewind for iPad
    - Addresses bugs affecting battery life
    - Fixes and issue that occasionally caused audio to drop for outgoing calls

      ICON PROJECT icons don't work with 5.1 either. This sucks!!!!!!! Why would Apple screw that over???

      Nope.. I have no battery issues as well. Well I can always appreciate a bit more battery life but atm I am with 1 percent batter - 9 hours of usage and 18 hours of stand by since last full charge.. seems normal to me for a smartphone but then again I've never owned an iPhone before

      I don't have any either. After a 18 hour day I still have about 40% left after an hour of YouTube at lunch and various web use texting and calls

      Thank you, I know now NOT to update.... man, I wish there was an easy way to fix the jailbreak without restoring so we could just update OTA

      Well, I upgraded from an iPhone 3G to my 4S mid December. So to me, my battery lasts far longer than my 3G ever did, and I do much more heavy power using apps as well. But heck, if my battery will last even longer now, bring it on!! About to upgrade to 5.1!

      Now it's time for me to save AP Tickets. Should of done it a long time ago anyway.

      And for the people with apps that will only install on 5.1, you could fake the OS to say 5.1 and the app will install. Don't know if the app will work though.

      Wtf features are you using? iPhone 4? 4s? I have the 4s 5.0.1 and with everything turned on I can go from 100% to 0% in 3 hours

      I don't, But I think alot of people have a ton of tweaks and things on their phone. That or they have bad service with means more power used.

      If i update it will be on my ipod only. No need to remove a perfectly good untether for my 4s just for some stupid features that aren't actually useful to me. Plus most of these are on Cydia for iOS 5.0.1 and 5.0.

      Lucky sons of guns, all y'all with 4Ses that last through a day.

      Unfortunately, I love my jailbreak tweaks (Zephyr, WeatherIcon, SBSettings, Five Icon Dock, etc.) too much to dump the JB and head for 5.1 today. I can wait for a jailbreak--I hope.

      PSA REGARDING FIRMWARE RESTORES:

      If you own an iPhone 4S, after Apple stops signing 5.0.1, you cannot restore your iPhone to iOS 5.0.1, even if you have an APTicket and SHSH blobs. Your only option will be 5.1. Period.

      If you own an iPad 2, after Apple stops signing 5.0.1, you cannot restore your iPad to iOS 5.0.1, even if you have an APTicket and SHSH blobs. Your only options will be 5.1 or any 4.3.x revisions of firmware you have SHSH blobs for.

      Any other 5.0.1-capable device (iPad 1G, Apple TV 2G, iPT 3G, iPT 4G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4): You may continue to restore to iOS 5.0.1 after Apple ceases signing the firmware if and only if you have a valid APTicket and SHSH blobs for iOS 5.0.1. Otherwise, it's iOS 5.1 only.

      Stupid "upgrade" on louder sound with video, how about point the speaker to the front??? Speaker in the back pointing away from you playing louder only makes people annoyed at you.
      From the looks of the "New iPad" it is as annoying as previous gen.
