  • 25 Billion App Store Downloads Getting Close – Will You Win?

    Last month we reported on Apple's promotional event where the person who downloads the 25,000,000,000th application gets a free $10,000 iTunes gift card that is good for purchases in the App Store, iTunes Store, and iBooks Store. After about two weeks, that time is finally coming and folks, it looks like tonight will be the night. If you have ever had the urge to download a ton of applications, then tonight is the night to do it!

    If you don't feel like downloading a ton of applications to enter the contest, you can complete an alternative entry form tonight instead. You are limited to 25 entries per day via the alternative entry form, but you have as many entries as you want if you just download App Store applications. The person to download the 25 billionth application, or the person to submit the entry form immediately after the 24,999,999,999th application is downloaded (whichever comes first) will win the prize.

    The 25 billionth download from the App Store will set a brand new record for the smartphone application business. This is a great accomplishment for all of the amazing app developers that have contributed to the Apple App Store since the beginning. Congratulations to all of them!

      Nope. It's the same contest, it just started closer to 24.0Billion and took this long to get the next Billion Downloads!!!

      I wonder if announcing a giveaway like this creates a significant spike in paid app and iAd revenue. My gut tells me they are pulling in way more than $10k in increased profits due to this very giveaway (not a complaint, just an observation).

      Most definitely, I guarantee that they're making bank off of this, all those people downloading apps. It's a great way to make sells lol, plus Apple loses nothing in the process! So correct me if I'm wrong but the person that wins can't buy any kind of Apple computer right? Just music, apps and books? If that's true then that kind of blows!

      It might not be as great as buying an Apple computer, but regardless, it's an infinitely growing App Store, iTunes Store, and iBook Store where you can get anything you want until your $10k budget runs out. You really can't complain because even though Apple loses nothing in the process, neither do you.
