We have been toying around with Siri ever since she was released. Poor girl.
Do you ever get bored of Siri speaking in American English? Can you not understand Japanese, Italian, or the other multiple languages that are listed out for you in Siri’s preferences? Now you can have foreign accents in English for Siri. The new jailbreak tweak has been dubbed AnyVoice by iOS developer rud0lf77 and it is made for entertainment purposes only. Most people will probably prefer to leave Siri at her most understandable accent to make her the most useful to whoever is using her, but for some, changing the accent might be just funny enough to brighten up a day.
Not all of the languages are understandable. Only a select few will speak in English with an accent, while many of the languages will literally speak in the true language itself. Russian, Japanese, Swedish, German, and a few other popularly imitated accents will speak English with the accents included. That being said, the tweak is only partly functional.
The accents will only effect the Siri assistant (Spire included) – they will not affect iOS’s select and speak function, Voice Control, and they will not be heard if you use a tweak such as Aloud or SpeakEvents to have your notifications read out loud to you. Knowing that, we can assume that the tweak requires iOS 5 to be installed since Siri cannot be installed on iOS 4 or older.
If you’re looking to have a few minutes of entertainment, or to simply make using Siri more interesting, then check out AnyVoice to give her a foreign accent. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, however kids will enjoy playing around with the accents and you can even learn how to imitate accents well by listening to Siri speak with them. AnyVoice is free in the ModMyi repository of Cydia and the only setting to configure is choosing your language accent. Changing between them does not require a respring and is immediate. Useful? – No. Fun? – Probably!
