Sometimes when you aren’t looking, people snatch your iPhone and start playing with it. Sometimes your kids grab hold of it. In an event where you don’t want people getting into your applications and screwing with your preferences, a new jailbreak tweak dubbed DisableLaunch by iOS developer va2ron1 will keep them out.
DisableLaunch encompasses a preferences pane in the Settings application where you can set your numeric pass code and choose your Activator action for enabling and disabling the security tweak. After you enable the tweak, tapping on applications will do absolutely nothing. When you want to launch an application, invoke the Activator action again and enter your pass code as shown in the screenshot above and the tweak will allow you to launch your applications. When you’re finished, you can lock the applications again. The settings for DisableLaunch are shown below:
DisableLaunch requires iOS 5 to install and will provide a good defense against unwanted hands. If you enable the tweak, the person who picks up your iDevice cannot open Cydia to remove the tweak or open Settings to disable the tweak until the tweak is disarmed. The best part about DisableLaunch? – It's a free tweak; you can donate to the developer through the preferences pane if you want to.
The interface is easy to understand as far as user-friendliness and it looks pretty good too. The security probably isn’t as great as having a stock pass code (Apple’s way), however if you just want some simple security with the ability to still have access to Notification Center without needing to enter a pass code, then DisableLaunch is a good way to go about it. The security is comparable with many paid counterparts.
