iOS Platform Accounts for 35% of Mobile Ad Impressions
Apple’s iPhone 4S helped the company surge 12% and surpass Google Android in mobile ad impressions in North America. The growth was detailed on Friday by InMobi, which is the largest independent mobile advertising network; InMobi released its “Mobile Insights Report: North American Edition” for the month of January which comes from their network, serving more than 93.4 billion advertising impressions around the world each month.
The Cupertino California company’s share of available ad impressions in North America increased from 23.2% in October of 2011 to 35.3% in January. The 12.1% increase came as Android lost 3.2% finishing second with 32.7%. Apple’s weight in the field has increased strongly when compared to early 2011 where Google’s Android platform was the most tracked by InMobi for most of the year. While Apple saw an increase, RIM’s BlackBerry OS saw a steep decline, one steeper than that of the Android platform. The company dropped 8.9% to finish in third place at 11.6%.
According to vice president and managing director for InMobi’s North American operations, Anne Frisbie, “the iOS growth we are seeing may be attributed to the tremendous success of the iPhone 4S and iPad in the ecosystem.” She seemed pretty excited to see InMobi’s available impressions exceed 55 billion in North America and is looking forward to seeing further growth.
The recent study showed that the top three handsets tracked on the advertising network were all made by Apple with the most popular tracked device being the iPhone 4 with 9% share of the impressions. Following the iPhone 4 was the first-generation iPad with 6.3$ and the fourth generation iPod Touch with 6.1%.
Given the general trends of the current mobile market, the news doesn’t seem to be much of a surprise as a whole.
