  • New Cydia Application Allows Siri On Older iDevices - No Proxy Needed

Two newfangled applications have surfaced in the Cydia store today that permit you to link an iDevice deprived of Siri to an iPhone 4S to use Siri on that older iDevice. The big catch is that you need a jailbroken iPhone 4S, whether it is yours or not. The proxy server method does not necessitate an iPhone 4S because only the owner of the proxy server needs the iPhone 4S keys. In most cases, we buy the use of these servers so that we do not need to go out and buy an iPhone 4S. For that, Modmyi has produced a list of reputable Siri servers that you can use with the popular Siri port dubbed Spire by iOS hacker and developer Grant Paul.

The two new applications are called AssistantConnect and AssistantConnect4S. As the names advocate, one should be installed on the iPhone 4S and the other one should be installed on the older iDevice that you want Siri on. To use this method of getting Siri on your older, jailbroken iOS 5 device, you will need to have Spire installed on it. For the rest of the ride after installing Spire, you will be using this new application, which is made by an iOS developer by the name of Bilal S. Sayed Ahmad.

Subsequent to installing AssistantConnect from Cydia on both the iPhone 4S and the older iDevice (free from the BigBoss repository), you should reboot both iDevices. Afterwards, you will find a new icon on your home screen, which is indicated by the screenshot above. This is the application where you will send the iPhone 4S information over to your older iDevice. You can open that application up and you will find the interface, shown below. The top half of the screenshot is what the application will look like on the older iDevice and the bottom half is what you will see on the iPhone 4S.

The steps for making Siri fully functional on your older iDevice with AssistantConnect and AssistantConnect4S are outlined in five steps by the developer in the Cydia description of AssistantConnect4S:
    1. After installation, open AssistantConnect4S and reboot the iPhone 4S.
    2. After you reboot the iPhone 4S, open AssistantConnect4S again and invoke Siri (hold down the home button for a few seconds) and say something – anything you want to say.
    3. Tap the, “Email Siri Data” button and email it to any of your older iDevices that have AssistantConnect installed on them.
    4. Go over to your older iDevice (which should have not only AssistantConnect installed on it, but also Spire) and open the file that is emailed to you from the iPhone 4S.
    5. Enjoy Siri.

The developer goes a step further to forewarn us that we should not share our iPhone 4S Siri information with more than five people at once. The developer also promises that the connection is secure.

That doesnt work anymore. Trust me I purchased the iPhonenews.ru and deleted the plist file numerous times and rebooted and it will not work. Apple has beat the proxy servers to the punch again. There is an alternative though. PM me if you want to know.

I recently got a 4S and I used this last night to get Spire working on my 4G iPod Touch and on my iPad 2. (Getting Spire installed on an iPad 2 was challenging but Google showed me how to do it.) It all worked perfectly. Totally unnecessary I know since I alrready have the real thing, but I wanted to see if it would actually work. And it did. I don't know if Apple has or will shut this down, but I do know it was working flawlessly last night. If it keeps working, I plan to use it to activate Spire on my 2 daughters' iPhone 4s (not 4Ses).

Ok everyone I have a iphone 4, I got keys from brother via assistantconnect and Siri is working perfectly with one exception...I can't turn on location services for it b/c I don't have Siri or Spire in the location services menu. I even uninstalled Assistantconnect and Spire than rebooted and reinstalled. Has anyone else come across this or does anyone know of a fix like editing a plist or something in ifile???

Well I got this last night followed the directions and it worked perfectly. Then later in the night every time I give it a command it looks like its loading because the light around the icon spins around but noting else ever happens..

I tried this last night and it worked flawlessly. However tried it again this morning and siri just stays blank. It does respond when I press the button, doesn't say or do anything... The expiration date isn't until tomorrow, I have deleted the .plist, disabled the 2 spires in SBSettings, proxy host settings aren't blank. Don't know what else there is to do..

It's just to bad spire always disables something important after installing. The first time I installed it safari wouldn't work, the second my phone and messages app wouldn't work, now after I installed it this time I cannot login to my online banking, input my password to purchase app, etc... Anytime the keyboard is requested within an app it freezes up. I can close the app and it goes on as normal but I find it really strange that it's always something different with each install. I hope Grant Paul will find a fix and update so spire can become much more stable. What's the point of having spire if you can't use important features of your phone. These tweaks work great, but I really hope spire becomes more stable soon

Grant has a working fix for Spire. We are just waiting for him to release it.

Really? Great! I can't wait. I'm glad he stuck by his word and said he'd fix all the bugs once somebody found more use for it. Thanks Grant.

I am in the same boat. Siri works perfectly just no location services. I just have to add my location to the request. Would also like to know if there is a solution to this.

It worked just fine for me.

      From the article:
In order to remedy the issue, purge the com.apple.assistant.plist file (var > mobile > Library > Preferences). Many comments on Twitter and on various news outlets suggest this has worked pretty well.
I am using my own 4S information as described in the rest of this thread. Doing the above got it to work, at least for me.

Turn Siri location services on under Settings, Location Services. It's with all the other ones, it isn't under Siri.

Is this in response to Siri being busy the whole day? I have it it on but same issue.. Also after deleting com.apple.assistant.plist file it comes back each time..

on my iphone 4 it was working for one day perfectly. the following day as I just ask how the weather will be, siri was in a endless process. I reboot again but no different. no errors no signs of an error. homebutton pressed siri start up like a charme, you ask how the weather will be and thats it. have somebody a idear?

haha, i thing I found the problem. if you open the assistantconnect maybe you will see the same like me as well, that the expire time is the time one day after installation. it happen by my phone.

[QUOTE=therockk;6410289]i also just tried AssisstantConnect with my iPhone 4S and brothers iPhone 4. Installed just fine, worked like a CHARM! I also made a custom script which will automatically open AssisstantConnect 4S, activate and use Siri and email the authentication file automatically to my brother every 24 hours. Score!

How did you make this script? Will you PM me on this?
