  • New Cydia Application Allows Siri On Older iDevices - No Proxy Needed

Two newfangled applications have surfaced in the Cydia store today that permit you to link an iDevice deprived of Siri to an iPhone 4S to use Siri on that older iDevice. The big catch is that you need a jailbroken iPhone 4S, whether it is yours or not. The proxy server method does not necessitate an iPhone 4S because only the owner of the proxy server needs the iPhone 4S keys. In most cases, we buy the use of these servers so that we do not need to go out and buy an iPhone 4S. For that, Modmyi has produced a list of reputable Siri servers that you can use with the popular Siri port dubbed Spire by iOS hacker and developer Grant Paul.

The two new applications are called AssistantConnect and AssistantConnect4S. As the names advocate, one should be installed on the iPhone 4S and the other one should be installed on the older iDevice that you want Siri on. To use this method of getting Siri on your older, jailbroken iOS 5 device, you will need to have Spire installed on it. For the rest of the ride after installing Spire, you will be using this new application, which is made by an iOS developer by the name of Bilal S. Sayed Ahmad.

Subsequent to installing AssistantConnect from Cydia on both the iPhone 4S and the older iDevice (free from the BigBoss repository), you should reboot both iDevices. Afterwards, you will find a new icon on your home screen, which is indicated by the screenshot above. This is the application where you will send the iPhone 4S information over to your older iDevice. You can open that application up and you will find the interface, shown below. The top half of the screenshot is what the application will look like on the older iDevice and the bottom half is what you will see on the iPhone 4S.

The steps for making Siri fully functional on your older iDevice with AssistantConnect and AssistantConnect4S are outlined in five steps by the developer in the Cydia description of AssistantConnect4S:
    1. After installation, open AssistantConnect4S and reboot the iPhone 4S.
    2. After you reboot the iPhone 4S, open AssistantConnect4S again and invoke Siri (hold down the home button for a few seconds) and say something – anything you want to say.
    3. Tap the, “Email Siri Data” button and email it to any of your older iDevices that have AssistantConnect installed on them.
    4. Go over to your older iDevice (which should have not only AssistantConnect installed on it, but also Spire) and open the file that is emailed to you from the iPhone 4S.
    5. Enjoy Siri.

The developer goes a step further to forewarn us that we should not share our iPhone 4S Siri information with more than five people at once. The developer also promises that the connection is secure.

$5 a month? Thats $60/year! SiriZone is only $20/year and works everyday without having to send new keys daily. Man you crazy

And SiriToggles even works. Wow this is nice having Siri and not having a 4S!
I tried this but I was stymied also....just kept saying something's wrong can't connect now then I tried the delete of that com.apple file everyone's talking about....worked perfectly after that.....

      Thanks!

PS. You can edit the plist for the AssistConnect auth file in /var/mobile/Library/Preferences .. the expire date is in there and can be modified.. as for whether or not that actually extends the expiration won't be known until tomorrow .. I don't think Apple expires the keys every day though.. or how are those commercial proxy servers working?

      Anyway it's working
where can i disable those two settings in SBsettings?

Again, to point out for people who are having trouble getting Siri to work "constantly saying she can't connect to the network". Then try this little guide. Apple have added a new AuthToken for Siri and this little workaround looks to work. Apple's Third-Party Siri Crackdown (and How to Get Around It) | Gizmodo UK

In order to remedy the issue, purge the com.apple.assistant.plist file (var > mobile > Library > Preferences). Many comments on Twitter and on various news outlets suggest this has worked pretty well.

The dev is really going to have to find a way to automate the daily updates (even better than automatically sending email) for this to take off. There needs to be a way for the 4S to automatically send the keys, or a way for the 4 to automatically send a request and receive the response and update what it needs.

this is indeed what fixed it for me. I used spire when it first came out and i still had the old preferences file. Thanks for posting this up.

I've gotten siri to work on my Ip4 with my wife's 4S. Im having one issue though. I can't enable Location services for Siri. The option to turn on is not even in the settings. So when i ask for the weather for ex... siri doesn't know where i am. Anyone else have this problem?

[QUOTE=dsg;6410319]no I would rather update to a newer iDevice that isn't dying on me like my 3Gs but I can't afford to, siri is just a novelty anyway, I would just like a free way to try it out

I see, but seeing as how you can not afford to update to a newer device at the present moment. Don't you think the logical step would be to setup your own Siri server or pay $20 for one, and save hundreds of dollars you dont have right now? Just my .2 cents!

This is what I did for my iPhone 4 from start to finish.

Installed Spire, rebooted, installed AssistantConnect, opened it then rebooted, installed AssistantConnect4S on my iPhone 4S, opened it and rebooted. On my iPhone 4 I then went into settings, general, and enabled Siri, then checking SBsettings the spire hooks were already disabled, I did have to delete the com.apple.assistant.plist file and it still didn't work so going BACK into SBsettings there was a double hooks and injector, make sure even the doubles are disabled, I rebooted, and everything works perfectly.

@JAYPIFF Try checking SBsettings again for the hooks and injector

NOTE:Also the proxy setting for Spire, I do have http://127.0.0.1 and it works.

Any questions just reply or PM and I will try and help

AssisstantConnect mod hasn't been out for more than 3 minutes and you already see people trying to capitalize from it!

It may not be good for you, but there certainly are multi-iPhone families, such as mine, where not every member in the household has a 4s. My fiance is very happy to be able to use the speech to text feature in the messages app to send her texts. So no, this isn't ****, it's just not convenient for you.

Also, I believe you were looking to the word "viable" not "liable" in that last sentence there.

Remove the accessibility .plist file as is mentioned on page 3 of the thread.
