  • New Cydia Application Allows Siri On Older iDevices - No Proxy Needed

Two newfangled applications have surfaced in the Cydia store today that permit you to link an iDevice deprived of Siri to an iPhone 4S to use Siri on that older iDevice. The big catch is that you need a jailbroken iPhone 4S, whether it is yours or not. The proxy server method does not necessitate an iPhone 4S because only the owner of the proxy server needs the iPhone 4S keys. In most cases, we buy the use of these servers so that we do not need to go out and buy an iPhone 4S. For that, Modmyi has produced a list of reputable Siri servers that you can use with the popular Siri port dubbed Spire by iOS hacker and developer Grant Paul.

The two new applications are called AssistantConnect and AssistantConnect4S. As the names advocate, one should be installed on the iPhone 4S and the other one should be installed on the older iDevice that you want Siri on. To use this method of getting Siri on your older, jailbroken iOS 5 device, you will need to have Spire installed on it. For the rest of the ride after installing Spire, you will be using this new application, which is made by an iOS developer by the name of Bilal S. Sayed Ahmad.

Subsequent to installing AssistantConnect from Cydia on both the iPhone 4S and the older iDevice (free from the BigBoss repository), you should reboot both iDevices. Afterwards, you will find a new icon on your home screen, which is indicated by the screenshot above. This is the application where you will send the iPhone 4S information over to your older iDevice. You can open that application up and you will find the interface, shown below. The top half of the screenshot is what the application will look like on the older iDevice and the bottom half is what you will see on the iPhone 4S.

The steps for making Siri fully functional on your older iDevice with AssistantConnect and AssistantConnect4S are outlined in five steps by the developer in the Cydia description of AssistantConnect4S:
    1. After installation, open AssistantConnect4S and reboot the iPhone 4S.
    2. After you reboot the iPhone 4S, open AssistantConnect4S again and invoke Siri (hold down the home button for a few seconds) and say something – anything you want to say.
    3. Tap the, “Email Siri Data” button and email it to any of your older iDevices that have AssistantConnect installed on them.
    4. Go over to your older iDevice (which should have not only AssistantConnect installed on it, but also Spire) and open the file that is emailed to you from the iPhone 4S.
    5. Enjoy Siri.

The developer goes a step further to forewarn us that we should not share our iPhone 4S Siri information with more than five people at once. The developer also promises that the connection is secure.

I've tried everything from scratch again and still no go

I've read that apple is putting a stop to non 4s devices running Siri ports.

AH I disabled those earlier but had no success (mentioned it in an earlier post) .. suddenly it's working now .. but I also went in and deleted spires old plist files after deleting it and reinstalling it was well ..

So who knows.. but the hooks for spire definitely have to be removed

      Thanks!

PS. You can edit the plist for the AssistConnect auth file in /var/mobile/Library/Preferences .. the expire date is in there and can be modified.. as for whether or not that actually extends the expiration won't be known until tomorrow .. I don't think Apple expires the keys every day though.. or how are those commercial proxy servers working?

      Anyway it's working

Why are you guys going through all this trouble? Lol. I have a 4S and I can count the number of times I've used Siri on two hands. She is kind of useless.

Anything that requires typing no longer requires umm.... typing
This alone is enough. All the other stuff is gimicky and just fluff... Very nice fluff

And I know that there r other apps that can dictate but I don't want to have to copy and paste it after. Siri is built into everything.

      Tried this. Still not working

Siri pops up and just sits there. No sound like I get on the 4s. I can tap the mic button but it does absolutely nothing.

Well you have to turn Siri on and/or install Spire first.

Yes they are, by introducing a new token system to authenticate the iPhone. Simple fix. Just goto Var/mobile/Library/Preferances and look for com.apple.assisstant.plist and delete it! Try Siri again and it will work like a charm!

There is no point offering these services as your 4S keys will be blacklisted quickly! Also you can get a full 1 year subscription via @Sirizone for $20, which i can verify works flawlessly!

i also just tried AssisstantConnect with my iPhone 4S and brothers iPhone 4. Installed just fine, worked like a CHARM! I also made a custom script which will automatically open AssisstantConnect 4S, activate and use Siri and email the authentication file automatically to my brother every 24 hours. Score!

Kind of useless? I have my own business and i heavlily post my advertisements online, to which 70% of people generally email me or text me to inquire about prices etc. And Siri has literally saved me hundreds of hours from having to manually go in and check messages and spend time replying to them! I can use my voice un-interrupted while i work without even having to take the phone out of my pocket! Now with the 4S jailbreak available i have been able to make all sorts of custom add-ons for Siri that further enhance it for my workflow! Give Siri a chance!

again, someone wanna share their 4S keys? I'm not sure if using something like @SiriZone is good for privacy reasons...

this is **** if I could afford a 4s I wouldn't need an app to enable me to use siri on an older iDevice

Edit: and I'd rather save up to buy a 4s than pay for a proxy thats liable

You would rather pay $500 + for a iPhone 4S just for Siri when you have the option of running it on an older iDevice for $20, especially with the iPhone 5 around the corner? Bravo mate!

no I would rather update to a newer iDevice that isn't dying on me like my 3Gs but I can't afford to, siri is just a novelty anyway, I would just like a free way to try it out

      iPhone 5 around the corner?
      ahh rumors

Then drop a couple bucks to try it out. There's no harm in supporting the people that assist in bringing these ports to us.
