  • [Review] Zeppelin - Add A Status Bar Logo to iOS

Do you want to spice up your status bar?

In the past there have been multiple tweaks that allow you to change the carrier text on your iPod touch, iPad, or iPhone from AT&T/Verizon/Sprint/iPod/iPad, to basically anything that you wanted. This is a very common customization option for jailbreakers that has been widely accepted. But today, we have stumbled upon a tweak that doesn't just change your carrier text, but it replaces it with a logo of your choice. The tweak has been dubbed Zeppelin by iOS developer jivhg.

The settings for using it are really simple. When you install Zeppelin from Cydia and respring your iDevice, you will get a new panel in your Settings application that has three major sections. The first section is the part that lets you disable and enable the tweak at your own leisure so that you never have to uninstall it to get rid of its effects (which I think is wonderful, by the way). The second section holds all of the different icons that you can use in your status bar. The last section makes you respring your iDevice every time that you want to apply a different image to your status bar. The complete settings for Zeppelin are in the screenshots below:

Aside from the countless icons that you can use to add personalization to your iDevice (there's at least one for everyone depending on what kind of fan you are), you will also see that upon entering the Settings application or any other application that turns the status bar gray instead of transparent black like it is on the home screen, that the icon actually takes the same gradient-filled color scheme as your signal bars would. I think that effect really makes it feel like it belongs there because it just fits in with the other colors in the status bar that are next to it (in this case, Wi-Fi). The entire list of icons is as follows:

    • Android
    • Aperture Science
    • Assassin's Creed
    • Batman
    • Beats by dre
    • Blue Cloud
    • Infiniti
    • Pac-Man
    • Space Invaders
    • Superman
    • Triforce

Additionally, if you want more icons, you can head over to /Library/Zeppelin with any SSH client or with iFile and add in your own icons to use. I think that this range of customization is a really great idea and having the personal touch of icons in your status bar with the ease of tapping on a button and respringing is it an even better implementation than ever. My only problem with it? There's no icon in the Settings panel for it. The best part is that it's a free jailbreak tweak. What are your thoughts about Zeppelin? For some reason, this only works on the springboard, or the Notification Center. When I Load an app, on the status bar it shows no carrier logo at all, only the wifi logo. Any ideas?
This will be fixed in the update being released tomorrow supposedly

I tried to put Sprint Logo .png files into the folder hosting the logos. I made a folder structure just like the other ones, respiring, and went into the settings to select my logo. It wouldn't show in the menu.

Either you are on a retina device and didn't put @2x to the end of the files names or there is a permissions issue. In which case you chmod -R 755 /Library/Zeppelin and chown -R mobile:staff /Library/Zeppelin. Also, Zeppelin doesn't update its list every time you open settings. The Settings.app must be terminated for each new theme list to be generated.

      Cool little tweak.

I had a small issue getting it to work. Back before iOS5, I had 'Make it Mine' installed and I had the iPhone Emoji as my carrier logo. When I 1st jailbroke iOS5, my carrier logo weirdly changed to the iPhone emoji even though I didn't install Make it Mine. I didn't think much of it till I saw this tweak.

To get it to work I had to install Make it Mine. leave the text box blank and respring (effectively removing the iPhone emoji). I now have my Zeppelin logo showing. )

Maybe I'm being a little dense this morning - but why aren't the signal bars showing to the left of the new icon in the screen shots? I like the look of the icons without the bars next to them, but I can't figure out if there is a way to hide the signal bars.

trademark.designs- The reason the device in the screen shots doesn't have any signal bars displayed is because it is a iPod touch, not the iPhone. Hope that helps.

Because that is an iPod Touch not an iPhone.

Incorrect. MIM is integrated into SBSettings and most certainly does work. I'm on iOS 5.0.1, iPhone 4S.

Who around here knows how to take an image file and turn it into the necessary files for this tweak? I've got three logos I'd like to convert.

It works on iOS 5. I just changed it back and took a screen shot but for some reason I can't upload it in advanced options from my iPhone or even upload my profile pic for that matter. Any help on that anyone?

      I do.

      1. rename the images as follows and place them into a folder.
      a. Default (The one that goes on the silver bar) -> silver.png (or silver@2x.png)
      b. Lockscreen/Homescreen/FSO -> black.png (or black@2x.png)
      c. Notification Cener -> etched.png (or etched@2x.png)

      2. Place this folder with your images within it in /Library/Zeppelin.
      3. Terminate the settings application if it is already running and open Zeppelin
      4. Your new logos should be in the list

To have zeppelin logo in settings simply put a .png file with "Icon.png" in Library/PreferenceBundles/ZeppelinSettings.bundle that's it..

      Here's my Icon.png
      Attachment 563874

      Attachment 563875

It's from one of the Led Zeppelin's classic...

Thanks -- it appears the key is a default icon height of 40 pixels, and to make the background transparent.
