  • [How To] Set A Boot Logo With the Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak

This quick guide will tell you how to set a custom boot logo on iOS 5.0.1.

One thing that many people liked about the Chronic Dev Team's untethered greenpois0n jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 was the ability to set custom boot logos. Unfortunately, as time has passed, jailbreak tools have stopped supporting native boot logos for the iDevice lineup. Setting a custom boot logo, however, has still never been easier. You need to install three things to make your custom boot logo appear after you jailbreak and all of it can be found in Cydia. Actually, two things; but, you also need to install a boot logo for it to work!

To begin, you need a tool called, "animate" which was made available about the time that the iOS 4.2.1 untethered greenpois0n jailbreak was released. The only prerequisite to it is that it only works on iOS 4.2.1 (as you will see when you find it; it tells you). But, we are going to bypass that prerequisite so that we can have our boot logo on iOS 5.0.1. So, to get 'animate' you're going to open up Cydia and search for it. You want to install the tool that was made by the Chronic Dev Team:

After you install it (no respring or reboot required), you are going to install the tool that will let the boot logo work on an iOS version that is not iOS 4.2.1. The tool you will need is called, "animate fix for iOS 4.x.x" and it was released by iH8sn0w, the famous developer behind iFaith, sn0wbreeze and other jailbreak tools alike. So, to get 'animate fix for iOS 4.x.x' you're going to open up Cydia and search for it. Even though it says it's for iOS 4.x.x, it works for iOS 5.0.1 as well. When you find it, just install it (once again, respring or reboot required):

Now that you have those two tools installed, you can download and install the third thing that you need - a boot logo. You can search through Cydia's archives for a boot logo that you like or you can use one of your own. You can test out what you have already because after you install 'animate' the greenpois0n boot logo is made your boot logo by default. You can change this by going into your Settings application, then opening the Bootlogo section, and then picking between Chronic Dev Team's boot logo or the stock Apple logo. After you install a third party boot logo, it will appear in that list as well for you to choose from.

That's all there is to getting a boot logo on iOS 5.0.1. If you haven't heard already, the A5 jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 has arrived. You can follow our guide on how to jailbreak your A5 device with the new Absinthe A5 jailbreak from this link. Maybe one of the first things you will do with your newly jailbroken A5 device is change the boot logo! This will work on other iDevices jailbroken on iOS 5.0.1 as well - not just the A5 ones. Happy jailbreaking.

Please note that the tweak made for patching 'animate' was built for iOS 4. If you're having trouble, wait for the iOS 5 patch. The current version has worked fine for me and some others. Some boot logos will work better than others. Try this at your own risk.

If you see a boot logo often enough on your device to customize it, your not a happy person. Dumb.

If Anthony Bouchard had any sense he would remove this article till a stable solution was found.

      Way to go!

What!!!!!! Animate & animate fix has been updated????????

Because if it is still the same versions as before then DO NOT USE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They WILL Royally F-up you screen display!!!!!!!!!

I tried the Animate and animate fix, with a boot logo, ad it worked, but after the phone boots up the pixels get all screwed up. I don't know how to explain it. It's like the pixels do a quick flash of craziness after the phone boots up.

THIS WILL PERMANENTLY DAMAGE YOUR SCREEN if you use the standard version of Animate and Animate Fix for 4.3.x!!!!!!!!!

It fuc*** my iPod touch 4G iOS 5.0.1 and now the screen has 4 white flashing lines that have never gone away!!!!!! After a million restores (and not jailbreaking after the restores) I have come to the conclusion that Animate caused it.

I had it installed for a few weeks, and then all the sudden my screen display was permanently screwed.

UNLESS ANIMATE IN CYDIA LITERALLY SAYS: "updated for iOS 5" THEN DO NOT INTALL FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME!!!!!!!

      YOU HAVE BEED WARNED.

I said part of this in the beginning of the thread. He is NOT lying. IT WILL TOTALLY BUG OUT AND DESTROY your display. I've seen 3 devices in as many days with the displays either going out or having white spotty pixelation defects and all of them happened after trying to have Animate/Animate fix. MMI Staff you should really really remove this "HOW TO". Im a big supporter of the staff here but seriously, this isn't how to set a boot logo for iOS 5 devices it's a how to f*** up your iOS 5 device very quickly tutorial. Seriously guys you should remove it before people start blaming YOU for their devices getting screwed.

It sucks because I love being able to change the boot logo. If you don't have this same issue please
Let me know because id like to know if it's something to do with my device.
Same **** happened to me. Sucks. Good thing the damage wasn't permanent like you mentioned above. Saying this software can do permanent damage to hardware is absolute BS.

This was very buggy to start with and now it has been updated but after trying to download the new version in cydia I can't even download as it wants to remove every package I have installed and at the bottom of the screen it says "conflicts........ IOS FIRMWARE"

Ok well keep using that version and watch your display burn out. It works, but it causes heavy graphical issues after being used a bit. I personally know 3 people who used it and now 2 of them don't have screens that work and the other has white pixelations all over the screen. After its been uninstalled, restored, caches cleared, etc...

Well it's easy. Download ifunbox, drop it in "Raw File System" ten click refresh. Then open and app alled iFile (whichuat be downloaded thrift Cydia$ then open it, go all the way to the front, find the file, tap it, tap installer, respring. Must b jailbroken.

But FYI....this is pointless...the fix is in Cudoa already just open Cydia and search "Animate Fix" and you will see it. Install it and yor done.

I have tried it, and it works......okay I guess. There is a nice long respring after the boot logo rite before it shows the lick screen (not ready for release if ya ask me).

I don't want my device to respring for 20-40 seconds after it reboots. Not worth installing if ya ask me. It needs worked on.

From my point of view, it still does not work properly. But nevertheless works. Up to you to decide. I guess. I'm not gonna use and jut hope one day it gets fixed.
