  • Redsn0w Updated to Version 0.9.10b4 With iBooks Fix

Get the new redsn0w 0.9.10b4 today!

Redsn0w has been updated tonight to version 0.9.10b4 with the iBooks fix that hit the Corona untethered jailbreak package in Cydia. The fix brings a kernel-level sandbox fix that will let you read your purchased content through iBooks even on a jailbroken iOS 5.0.1 device. The fix is based on comex's patch but was brought to us through a port by xvolks. You now have the option to choose between rejailbreaking your iDevice with redsn0w or installing the Corona untether update on your iDevice. The update was brought to us by MuscleNerd in a tweet not too long ago:

If you choose to go the route of using redsn0w to update your jailbreak, then make sure that before you click the jailbreak button that your iPhone is powered off before entering DFU mode. This is controlled DFU mode. After you do that, click on the jailbreak button and it will go through and exploit your iDevice. The next step is to deselect, "Install Cydia" and anything else that might be checked. When nothing is checked, click next and redsn0w will apply the updates to the jailbreak on your current iOS 5.0.1 untether.

Thanks to xvolks for merging the iBooks (sandbox) fix from comex’s github into the overall corona untether from pod2g! As usual, you can choose to install the fix either by re-running redsn0w over your existing jailbreak (de-select Cydia if you do that), or by installing the corona package from Cydia (it’s the same set of files no matter which way you choose).
TIP: If auto-detection fails and redsn0w tells you no identifying data was found, you can always pre-select the appropriate 5.0.1 IPSW using “Extras->Select IPSW”.
I always prefer to use redsn0w because that's one less Cydia package to have installed. If you installed Corona 1.0-5 already, then there is no reason for you to use redsn0w to rejailbreak your iDevice. If you haven't installed Corona yet, you get to choose between redsn0w or Corona because they do the same thing with tonight's updates. Corona might be a little faster. If you are using Windows then be sure to run redsn0w with administrator privileges by right clicking on it and selecting, "Run As Administrator" and say yes to the prompt that will appear. The download links for the new redsn0w can be found below:

    redsn0w 0.9.10b4 for Mac OS X
    redsn0w 0.0.10b4 for Windows

Redsn0w 0.9.10b4 will jailbreak all of the following devices running iOS 5.0.1:
    • iPhone 4
    • iPhone 3GS
    • iPod touch 4G
    • iPod touch 3G
    • iPad 1

No delete iBooksfix2 from Cydia and reinstall the iBooks app from app store. If you ran the corona package over a redsn0w tethered jb then go to Cydia and reinstall the corona package. Or if you're on the b3 untethered jb you can either install the new corona updated package, 1-5 I think or what I found works better (if you jb with b3) is run redsn0w 0.9.10b4 over 0.9.10b3, just make sure that "install Cydia" is unchecked before you run the jailbreak all the way through. When you first launch the software it'll go through some kernel files and THEN a popup will come up with install Cydia, multitasking gestures, etc... Just make sure install Cydia is NOT checked.

iBooks will now open since I re-jailbroke my iPad using redsn0w. My problem is that none of my books show up on the shelves even though they are syncing. I can tell they are because if I un-tick the box to sync all books it removes the ibook colored data from the graph line and the free space gets larger.

Anyone else not able to sync their iBooks?

I haven't seen anyone mention yet that this fix also clears the problem with MyWi. It works fine now. iBooks works for me too.

I have a 3GS phone on IOS 5.01 originally jailbroken with redsn0w b3 plus the version of Corona available at the time. This broke MyWi and iBooks. Upgrading Corona in Cydia yesterday, and re-installing solved both problems.

Ran the update tonight, all good after a bit of tweaking.

Worth also mentioning that F.Lux now works too, so im no longer blinded by my iPhone in the morning.
