  • Warning: ultrasn0w May Break GPS on Baseband 6.15.00

The Dev-Team is warning about a potential issue with ultrasn0w for iOS 4.2.1 on iPhones with the 06.15.00 baseband. An increasing number of users with that version of the baseband software are reportedly losing GPS functionality when they unlock their device. The blog post says they are looking for the root cause but haven't found it yet, and notes that it's not a problem for all or even most users with that baseband. Still, to be on the safe side, they're suggesting people should just not expect GPS to work if they want to unlock iPhones with the 06.15.00 baseband using ultrasn0w:

Update #5: Unlockers have been reporting mixed results about GPS functionality at 06.15.00. Until we can track down what differentiates those who retain GPS vs. those who lose it, be conservative and assume you’ll lose GPS at 06.15.00. As we work on finding the cause (and possibly a fix), please report your personal findings in our comments section. (Update: early indications are that while 06.15.00 is capable of GPS, it will require some further hacks. But please still be conservative and assume you will lose GPS at 06.15, in case the hacks don’t work).

No news on untethered jailbreak yet. If you update to the ipad baseband you will always have to use custom firmware when updating.

There is a package in cydia called location fix for iPad.. I was trying to install it cause i seem to also have lost gps ability. Anyways the package depends on a file that I just learned Is not possible to run on iPhone.

Is there any way that this fix can be evolved to facilitate this gps issue.. I suggest you go to cydia and look itt up read the desc.. Seems logical... Anyone?

from 3.1.2 (jailbreaked with blackra1n & tethered) i have restore original 4.1 and jailbreaked with limera1n (now no more tethered)

after that, i upgrade to bb 06.15.00 all work fine, except GPS poor signal (in Tomtom software).
i don't have any problem with a battery...

      (using iPhone 3Gs new boot)

I just want to remind all the people bragging about their gps working fine after upgrading to 6.15 baseband.

Iphone uses 3 methods of find your location. wifi, cell towers, and gps. If your gps isn't working it'll fallback onto the other 2 methods and you wouldn't even know. An indicator of gps working is when the blue dot is pulsing a bright blue glow outwards from the blue dot.

or if you really want to make sure, take your sim out, turn off wifi, then run maps. after a few minutes you will know if your gps is still working or not.

i have flowed this solution for downgrade bb (the log found here)
all seems well. but after i reboot, the bb not change.

because the current version is newer than this one ?
hmm, if I change the vsersion label from 05.11.07 to 06.15.01 on flash files with a hex editor it should work?

      very risky !!

That does not downgrade baseband. All that does is reflash the same baseband so that it is not corrupt. That was a solution for people who had used blacksnow and had the boot loop bug happen to them. This allowed them to reflash their current baseband without having to update to 5.12.01, which at that time was not unlockable.

There is no problems with my 3GS 16g. On ios4.2.1. Everything works, and I'm on week 1.

How can I make my own restore.ispw? Or would that help anyone??

You would use pwnage tool to make custom 4.2.1 firmware.
