  • iOS 5.1 Patches Corona Untethered Jailbreak: Update to iOS 5.0.1 While You Still Can!

Want an untethered jailbreak? Don't Update to iOS 5.1.

The recent untethered jailbreak for A4 devices and the upcoming untethered jailbreak for A5 devices will only be for iOS 5.0.1. It has been confirmed that iOS 5.1 beta 3 closes the exploit for the Corona untethered jailbreak - yes that includes the redsn0w 0.9.10 jailbreak because it uses the same exploits found by iOS hacker pod2g as Corona does. iOS 5.1 is currently in beta, and will be released to the public very soon.

If you want your untethered jailbreak for iOS 5, then we recommend that you stay with iOS 5.0.1, or you update to iOS 5.0.1 if you have not already as soon as you possibly can. Since iOS 5.1 closes the exploits used in iOS 5.0.1 with the Corona untether, more exploits will need to be found to jailbreak iOS 5.1 untethered. A4 devices will likely have a tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 at least, because of the fact that A4 devices have a bootrom exploit. A5 devices on the other hand, won't be so lucky. A5 devices also currently have no way to downgrade firmware, so again I emphasize, if you want an untethered jailbreak then get on iOS 5.0.1 while you have the chance!

If you are an A4 device user and you have your APticket and SHSH blob custom firmware for iOS 5.0.1, then you can update to iOS 5.1 to try it out when it comes out with the security that you can always downgrade again. iOS 5.1 will bring few new features to iOS such as the ability to delete individual photos from your Photo Stream, and the ability to toggle 3G on the iPhone 4S. It is also said to have indefinitely solved the battery crisis on the iPhone 4S. If you feel that these features are worth losing an untethered jailbreak over, then go ahead and make the leap of faith.

If you are using an A4 device and you want to secure your position in iOS 5.0.1, then you can follow our guide on making a custom iOS 5.0.1 firmware with iFaith. It was written for iOS 5.0 but it will be the same process for making an iOS 5.0.1 firmware. You can also use TinyUmbrella and redsn0w to make custom firmware if you're not a Windows user. Good luck!

So are you saying that jailbreaking an idevice only screws up the iOS and that a bone stock idevice is better than jailbreaking? If that's what you're saying then first, why are you a part of this forum and secondly how in the world have you come to such a conclusion? I respect your opinion because you have that right but there are soooo many great tweaks and themes to make the iOS much more usable and IMO look a great deal more attractive. You don't think that Apple should give us the ability to have our devices the way we want it? I will agree that a lot of jbers probably use the exploit for piracy but there are very large percentage of us that are completely against, including myself. It gives Apple the want to not let us but I'm sure there are several ways they can put some kind of code to prohibit that ability. If the day ever came where Saurik and Apple combined forces I'm sure they could make it to where repos that support piracy could be blocked and or not allowed into Cydia. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that without several tweaks that I am currently able to have I wouldnt purchase an idevice. I'd go to Android where those options are available to me. I do like Apple products better but if "freeing" my device/phone comes to an end, so will my choice to own an Apple product.

Wow!! It amazes me how much you live off this forum, isn't there anything else you'd rather be doing?
We all know cons and pros of jailbreaking, how you want to use you device is entirely up to you, Personally I can't think of anything that is provided by the jailbreak community that I can't live without. Would you live to see the day apple united with saurik?doubt it. It more likely will be that apple devour them all which is what apple has been doing all along.at the rate apple is pushing out security upgrade these days, at some point jailbreak will become impossible. Then it's kiss apple goodby for you huh?no it won't, you will continue purchasing apple product like everybody out there complaining how dominating and manipulative apple is.

It amazes me how incredibly childish some people are. Regardless, I assure you without a jailbreak I will NOT buy an Apple device. Btw, isn't there anything else you'd rather be doing besides trolling. I need to learn to just ignore little ignorant humps like this girl.

I'm sure it takes no more than 10 seconds for everyone to realize that what you post is damn straight obvious. Post something that actually help people then maybe you will gain yourself some respect.

Respect? Who's? Yours? Nah I'd rather not have your respect. See I actually hold the respect of a lot of members/staff on MMI. Agh what's the point its useless. I'm not wasting anymore of my time on an uneducated waste of space. Pay more attention in school (I'm assuming you're still in school by the way you act). From this point forward I'm not responding to anymore of your ignorant comments. Just keep showing how truly dense you are. From your first troll of a post I gathered you to be mildly retarded but now after the second it's quite apparent that you're just truly acutely mentally handicapped.

And, the window continues to close. We are looking at possibly seeing iOS 5.1 in February, but I still advise that people update to iOS 5.0.1 as soon as possible because the A5 jailbreak is continuing to make more progress toward release.

Check out an app called IconProject. It allows you to create icons on the springboard to jump straight to a particular setting page. I have one set up for WiFi. It's no SBSettings but it still saves a couple of taps.

Which is sooner than I thought. Doesn't the beta 3 expire in march?

its called SBSettings, you can toggle your 3G with that and many other settings from any screen. its the first app i install after jailbreaking.

I too can confirm that the SBSetting 3G toggle does in fact work (on the 4S as well as others on 5.0.1.)
