  • iOS 5.1 Patches Corona Untethered Jailbreak: Update to iOS 5.0.1 While You Still Can!

Want an untethered jailbreak? Don't Update to iOS 5.1.

The recent untethered jailbreak for A4 devices and the upcoming untethered jailbreak for A5 devices will only be for iOS 5.0.1. It has been confirmed that iOS 5.1 beta 3 closes the exploit for the Corona untethered jailbreak - yes that includes the redsn0w 0.9.10 jailbreak because it uses the same exploits found by iOS hacker pod2g as Corona does. iOS 5.1 is currently in beta, and will be released to the public very soon.

If you want your untethered jailbreak for iOS 5, then we recommend that you stay with iOS 5.0.1, or you update to iOS 5.0.1 if you have not already as soon as you possibly can. Since iOS 5.1 closes the exploits used in iOS 5.0.1 with the Corona untether, more exploits will need to be found to jailbreak iOS 5.1 untethered. A4 devices will likely have a tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 at least, because of the fact that A4 devices have a bootrom exploit. A5 devices on the other hand, won't be so lucky. A5 devices also currently have no way to downgrade firmware, so again I emphasize, if you want an untethered jailbreak then get on iOS 5.0.1 while you have the chance!

If you are an A4 device user and you have your APticket and SHSH blob custom firmware for iOS 5.0.1, then you can update to iOS 5.1 to try it out when it comes out with the security that you can always downgrade again. iOS 5.1 will bring few new features to iOS such as the ability to delete individual photos from your Photo Stream, and the ability to toggle 3G on the iPhone 4S. It is also said to have indefinitely solved the battery crisis on the iPhone 4S. If you feel that these features are worth losing an untethered jailbreak over, then go ahead and make the leap of faith.

If you are using an A4 device and you want to secure your position in iOS 5.0.1, then you can follow our guide on making a custom iOS 5.0.1 firmware with iFaith. It was written for iOS 5.0 but it will be the same process for making an iOS 5.0.1 firmware. You can also use TinyUmbrella and redsn0w to make custom firmware if you're not a Windows user. Good luck!

406 is only for the 4s. It should be all 4s not just gsm since they all have the same hardware.

Are u sure about this? I have 2 iPhone 4S' & I have (9A405) on one & (9A406) on the other. Both are on Bell mobility GSM network. I think the difference between (9A405&6) is updating to iOS 5.0.1 on the iDevice in settings (9A405) & with iTunes on computer (9A406) I'm not sure about iPad 2, as I only have iPhones but I hope the upcoming A5 jb is for both (9A405&6) as long as its iOS 5.0.1.

Plus I thought all iPhone 4S are "World" phones, capable of GSM & CDMA?

Maybe you should stop waiting and realize that it will be out soon and update. Not blame this guy.

Hopefully well be able to just choose not to check for an update and it won't give us the badge. Because when I was jb on 5.0 it didn't get the badge until I manually tapped on settings general software update and it said checking for update :/

Makes perfect sense to me. I updated via OTA and not thru iTunes. So that would explain my device being on 405.

"Update to 5.0.1 now if you want an untethered jailbreak"

I'm still having second thoughts on my iPad 2 4.3.3

Hopefully the JB will be release before the 5.1 FW

dude, I don't think you are correct. If you try to install 5.0.1 on your iPad2 after 5.1 drops, Apple won't sign the 5.0.1 IPSW regardless if you have the SHSH's...Can the community confirm this?

And yes, the iPhone 4s IS a world phone, capable of gsm, cdma and the UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA flavors.

I thought about buying a 4S, already have the 4 jailbroke...I just don't think i will take that chance of upgrading on hopes of a timely jailbreak... if apple keeps this up and does stop jailbreaking all together then i'll stop buying new iPhones and i know a bunch here will also..

Do you not feel that iOS is at a stage now where jailbreaking isn't as pertinent as it once was? I remember on 1.1.4 iPhone1 and we had no MMS then we got swirlyMMS it was a must have to give you a feature most other phones had. These days JB'ing adds some value, but none that you can't live without. I appreciate the work these guys do but for me the Jb magic is fading. Yes I may JB when it's released but it won't stop me from upgrading and fixing issues that are important to me, and also give me a more reliable device. I think a lot of people JB as they think it's cool not because they have an actual use for it, or more than likely to pirate apps. Of course there are people who have a genuine need for it and will use the added functions/features that a JB can deliver.

A couple nice things about still using the 3GS with the older bootrom. I am able to turn off 3G and most of the time the tethered JB are untethered for the 3GS only. I was running an untethered JB on iOS 5.0 pretty much right after 5.0 came out

I JB to use SBSettings (the short cuts are nice) and to use LocationSpoof to avoid the ridiculous blackout rules for sports programming that I am paying for

I jb for a lot of reasons. First, I can't stand the stock iOS GUI. I think it's ugly as hell so I have to theme it (themes by FI7TY). Second, must have My3G, MyWi, SBSettings, BiteSMS, Infinidock, Gridlock, FolderEnhancer, and many other tweaks that we should have the capability of doing. If it wasn't for jailbreaking I wouldn't have an iPhone I'd go to android.

Couldn't one use the "stitch" feature of RedSn0w to create a signed IPSW for 5.0.1? RedSn0w only requires the SHSH blob and IPSW, right? If so, then one could be on a different firmware, like 4.3.3 for example, and create a signed IPSW for 5.0.1, or whatever firmware for that matter right? I personally don't need to do this, but I have not found much infoz about the feature.

I'm having a 4.3.3 ipad 2 CDMA version (has 3g)..so what can I do now if I cant live w/o the jailbreak,i heard most of the people said there are few hours or few days before apple stop signing it,is that true?

So can someone clarify if there's a difference when it comes to 9A405 and 9A406? I'm on 9A405, will I still be able to jailbreak? Or does that only matter based on what firmware?
