  • Another Update on A5 Jailbreak: 'It should be a matter of days'

Yesterday @Pod2g, @Musclenerd, @Suarik, and @Planetbeing made a huge step in surpassing the sandbox issues in their A5 jailbreak efforts. Pod2g updated his blog this morning claiming the A5 jailbreak is imminent.

@planetbeing escaped from the sandbox with the help of @saurik. Thanks to their awesome work, there should be nothing left blocking for the A5 jailbreak.

Now it should be a matter of days. Still no precise ETA of course.

We all want this to be finished ASAP, we're getting tired!
Not much new from yesterday’s report, and there is still no ETA (no sense making promises that could be broken) but, pod2g's claim that the a jailbreak is only days away is extremely encouraging. IPad 2 and iPhone 4S owners can rejoice. The dedicated efforts of @pod2g, @saurik, @MuscleNerd, and @planetbeing will soon be realized.

Cause I think I read somewhere that he doesn't read his twitter comments cause there is so many unless I'm thinking of someone else on twitter, but with that in mind he probably doesn't have time to read these forums is what I meant

Don't hear me wrong I am totally grateful for his services to the jailbreak community

I mean he just helped with the jailbreak, he is in school, and he is creating inPulse and other nice/great themes, usually it's hard to find extra time in the day with homework and all

Big difference between twitter comments and these forums. His twitter comments are probably way too many to read them all.

I was trying to say he probably doesn't go into reading all the comments after page 3ish if that cause it's basically the same as twitter but allows for ppl to rant on this site is all, not that ranting is okay

After trying to install all of my packages with the AutoInstall method, a few packages were installed and no jailbreak apps open (including Cydia). Nothing useful was installed like MobileSubstrate.

Did u have both the Cydia and MobileSubstrate .deb files? Also, Cydia has to be manually installed different from the regular method. It's placed in 2 locations if my memory serves me right. I wonder, then, if Mob. Sub. couldn't install since Cydia wasn't installed, yet...
Thanx for being a guinea pig!!!

...BTW, why r you trying to manually install Cydia? W/ redsn0w, you'll get Cydia automatically installed. So, then Mobile Substrate is really the only package that should be of any concern.

The AutoInstall is a function of Cydia. It needs to be installed to autoinstall deb packages placed in the correct directory. The path is a Cydia path, correct?
Now if Cydia was installed but didn't open, did you reboot and try again?

Ifunbox lets you install .deb packages, just drag and drop and reboot the device. Im pretty sure you still need cydia tho.

Are you 100% sure of this? I ask because I 'thought' a while ago that I helped one of our soldiers in Afghanistan get his phone 'unlocked' first, then he could install Cydia. I had to send him the jailbreak software which automatically gave him 'root' access and then I also sent him the ultrasn0w.deb file to unlock it (he had to manually create the Media, Cydia & AutoInstall folders, first). All of this was done BEFORE ever installing Cydia. I believe it was a Greenpois0n JB that had the Loader.app to install Cydia...

Lol. I never manually installed Cydia (sorry if it sounded like that). All I had to do was used "just boot" because Corona wasn't installed

Everything is working at 100%. Let me do my second reboot.

So were you able to grab & save the dependency files from BigBoss?

All kinds of problems. No one should ever do this.

What did you do just dump all the debs in auto install? That's not the way to do it, they need to be installed in a specific order. Start with (corona if not already untethered) mobsub and safe mode extension, then pincrush, and then winterboard. You need to install the dependency debs with the main deb, if that don't work dependencies first then main deb.

That's what I did. I figured that when you install a local deb without it's dependency normally, it waits until the dependencies are installed to finish configuring. So I thought it wouldn't cause any problems. How many people actually know every dependency of every package to do it correctly?

I know what dependencies my packages need. I've wrote it down just incase I ever needed to do this. Also I really don't run much theming stuff the only one I have that has a bunch of dependencies is ifile. A little digging tho will tell you from your list of debs which ones ifile needs and so on and so forth. This stuff takes me back to the good ol days of unix/Linux without package managers (think Slackware) where I got my start. Since iOS is unix based its essentially the same. If you really wanted to go all out you could script it all using apt.
