  • A5 Jailbreak Yet Another Step Closer - No More Sandbox Issues

Hackers to Apple: resistance is futile.

Hacker planetbeing, a part of the A5 untethered jailbreak dream team, announced via a tweet on Twitter today that we are one step closer to the A5 untethered jailbreak. Why? Because the dream team's newest member, saurik, helped them with getting out of the sandbox. It was originally planetbeing's responsibility to deal with the sandbox, but saurik helped once more. Saurik has been in cahoots with the A5 untethered jailbreak since the beginning.

It all started with pod2g's A5 caching issue. Saurik was able to assist in getting pod2g over that mountain. Not too long ago, we reported on MuscleNerd and pod2g tweeting the update that they were almost past solving the sandbox. Saurik's introduction to the issue today pretty much steam-rolled it and the ending was a happy story.

Escaping the sandbox is a very important step in the jailbreak. This is good news because the sandbox is one of the tough security measures that makes hacking into an iDevice hard. It mixes things around - imagine a literal sandbox. If you buried several small parts in it and mixed it all around, you would find it incredibly difficult to find the things that you buried in it because it hides the resources. This is the idea behind it. The sandbox measure keeps information from being discovered by malicious processes. It runs new processes separate from other processes so that they are limited in resource and cannot cause damage.

With the sandbox measure completely defeated, the rest of the jailbreak process will coast along nicely. We don't have an estimated time of arrival for the jailbreak yet, but we can properly assure you that the toughest mountain has been climbed. We expect that many iPad 2 and iPhone 4S owners will be happy to hear this news.

Attention seeking as he may be, that kid is freaking smart and Apple has the chance to have him pick everything apart everyday now. Is anyone else thinking that the reason this jailbreak is proving to be more challenging is the fact that GeoHot is working there?
Never though about that I think you could be right all of a sudden it seems to be a lot more difficult for them to jailbreak!!

Saurik has never done the jailbreaks. It is only these recent ones that he has started contributing to them.

Apple will always win this fight, once they started making their own processors it was a wrap.

Apple hasn't won anything. When something new comes out, we simply have to hack at it.

Theres major testing currently underway to solve the respring loop, then it needs to get wrapped in a GUI for release... So patience is all we need.

There also looking into if siri is being effected and possibly disabled by detection of a jailbroken kernel.....grrr its torture isn't it.

Not really a big deal for me. I don't theme my phone very often. Really, the only reasons I jailbreak is for mywi and 3g unrestrictor.
I have no issues waiting until they release something, but in the meantime, I'm not bothering with buying into the hype. "Most amazing jailbreak ever!", "Jailbreak is moving along quickly", "Update to 5.0.1 before Apple stops signing it"... Give me a break. They have been hyping up this jailbreak for months. If they do it, great. If they don't, owell. My 4s does almost everything I need/want it to do already. However, I won't be donating until a jailbreak is released. As it stands, one dev who has been building hype since he declared he was going to jailbreak the ipad2 on 4.3.3 has made large promises ever since(including how he was going to jailbreak the 4s the day it came out., but is still happily accepting donations and releasing nothing. In fact, I remember seeing on this dev's twitter where his girlfriend posted trying to get more donations so he would hurry up and package up pod2g's work. Seriously?? I DO suspect it will be done soon though. I doubt Jay Freeman/Saurik is inclined to let his cash cow dry up.
I buy my phone based on it's capabilities out of the box. If anything is added later, it's a nice benefit. Oh, and before someone decides to make the dumbass comment about writing one myself. 1, it's not that important to me. 2, try applying that saying to any other job. And yes, it is a job. With the exception of Musclenerd, they all accept donations and I remember when Comex posted how much he made in donations on his 2 jailbreaks. The number was a nice yearly salary.
I suspect the ones who are really going nuts for the jailbreak are the ones who charge people to jailbreak their phones by running software they got for free.
