  • A5 Jailbreak Yet Another Step Closer - No More Sandbox Issues

Hackers to Apple: resistance is futile.

Hacker planetbeing, a part of the A5 untethered jailbreak dream team, announced via a tweet on Twitter today that we are one step closer to the A5 untethered jailbreak. Why? Because the dream team's newest member, saurik, helped them with getting out of the sandbox. It was originally planetbeing's responsibility to deal with the sandbox, but saurik helped once more. Saurik has been in cahoots with the A5 untethered jailbreak since the beginning.

It all started with pod2g's A5 caching issue. Saurik was able to assist in getting pod2g over that mountain. Not too long ago, we reported on MuscleNerd and pod2g tweeting the update that they were almost past solving the sandbox. Saurik's introduction to the issue today pretty much steam-rolled it and the ending was a happy story.

Escaping the sandbox is a very important step in the jailbreak. This is good news because the sandbox is one of the tough security measures that makes hacking into an iDevice hard. It mixes things around - imagine a literal sandbox. If you buried several small parts in it and mixed it all around, you would find it incredibly difficult to find the things that you buried in it because it hides the resources. This is the idea behind it. The sandbox measure keeps information from being discovered by malicious processes. It runs new processes separate from other processes so that they are limited in resource and cannot cause damage.

With the sandbox measure completely defeated, the rest of the jailbreak process will coast along nicely. We don't have an estimated time of arrival for the jailbreak yet, but we can properly assure you that the toughest mountain has been climbed. We expect that many iPad 2 and iPhone 4S owners will be happy to hear this news.

Jesus Christ I wish geohot would pop his head back in the seen and drop another boot-rom exploit. Yes the way he did it last time was attention seeking but look at where it's got us, all devices A4 and lower are pwned for life albeit tethered. Just amagine how great a day it would be if he released another boot-rom exploit. He is still one of the best iOS hackers in the history of jailbreaking not to many others have found as many holes and exploits as he has other than the likes of comex and planetbeing.

      Sorry just my little rant

      Sandox broken
Here are some news about the current work on the A5 research.

@planetbeing escaped from the sandbox with the help of @saurik. Thanks to their awesome work, there should be nothing left blocking for the A5 jailbreak.

Now it should be a matter of days. Still no precise ETA of course.

We all want this to be finished ASAP, we're getting tired!

i think their should be a paypal acct made for the team!! I mean, it might be the only fair way, although pod2g was the one that kinda initiated the jb, i dunno, it just seems more fair to donate to the group than selectively donate. Will donate for their effort though, I didn't know how good it was til I lost it, lol

Keep up the good work. Looking forward to updating my iPad 2 to iOS 5.0.1 soon. Notification Center, iMessage, and split keyboard goodness.
You can do a split keyboard already stock. I did it on accident somehow....try google.

Not that it matters but most of these posts don't even honor @planetbeing for his work in all this. The blog specifically says: @planetbeing escaped from the sandbox *with the help of @saurik.*

Sorry, Just wanted to give credit where credit is due!

      Thanx DEVenger Team!!! ;-)

Didn't GeoHot get employed by Apple? I thought I heard he got some kind of employment there. If so, I personally don't think that Apple would let a new product roll out without having him look at it and try to hack in. Attention seeking as he may be, that kid is freaking smart and Apple has the chance to have him pick everything apart everyday now. Is anyone else thinking that the reason this jailbreak is proving to be more challenging is the fact that GeoHot is working there?

Nevermind, just found out that he is working for facebook. My Bad.

It's Comex I was thinking about. He is working for Apple now doing an undisclosed job as an intern. That is probably the best paid intern in the U.S.

      ***iPad only

Place 'one finger from each hand' on the right and left side of the keyboard and slide outwards. It'll split it...

Or you just press and hold down the keyboard button (bottom right) and a menu will pop-up to split it
