The general consensus among supply chain sources, Apple manufacturing partners, and Wall Street watchers is that Apple is almost certain to introduce the iPad 3 within the next 8 to 10 weeks.
On Wednesday, a report from Japan indicated that Apple manufacturers Foxconn and Pegatron are presently assembling the third generation tablet in a feverish manner to complete orders before a projected early March shipping date.
Claiming to have conferred with a knowledgeable Chinese source, Japanese Mac news website Macotakara says Foxconn has assumed 85% of the production responsibility for the iPad 3, while Pegatron is taking only 15%.
"This first lot production implements LCD's, which are produced by Sharp Electronics Corporation, and aims to be shipped at early March," a translation of the article reads.
Accordingly, now would be a good time to expect the flood gates to open with regard to supposed iPad 3 accessories. Macotakara asserts that accessory makers are now in possession of highly detailed iPad 3 specs (although, based on what we're hearing, those specs should be almost indistinguishable from the iPad 2's specs).
