  • SpotOn Radio App for the iPhone Released by Spotify

Everyone has already probably heard of the popular music service Spotify that allows users to stream large libraries of music to their computers. The company’s service can also be used on the iPhone with a premium subscription, allowing you to either sync and listen to your own music or stream Spotify’s tracks straight to your mobile device wherever you happen to be.

It seems like the company has recently opened up an API for app developers along with a new app called SpotON Radio is one of the first to take full advantage of it. It should be noted that that the app requires a premium Spotify subscription to work but for those of you who already have a subscription, SpotON will allow you to listen to Internet radio stations, your own Spotify playlists, or any of the other music Spotify offers. According to the company, the app uses “music intelligence” from Echo Nest for recommendations. Furthermore, the user interface and the design is quite clean and clear, which is always a bonus.

For those of you who already use the Spotify app on your iPhone, this gives you the option to utilize SpotON Radio as well. The Echo Nest integration might provide some new music that you may enjoy listening to and you may prefer the look and feel of the app compared to the official one. Now for those of you who don’t own a Spotify subscription, the choice seems pretty simple to just stick with the free Pandora service although you may feel otherwise. If you are interested, SpotON Radio is free to download right now at launch.

If you happen to try it out, let us know what you think of the app!
