  • Pod2g Updates Blog With A5 Jailbreak FAQ Explaining Why it is Not Currently Possible

A4 iDevice users have been enjoying the labor of love that is the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for over a week now. However, A5 device owners (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) still live in a jailbreakless world, and apparently many have expressed their displeasure to pod2g.

This displeasure resulted in pod2g posting the following FAQ on his blog this morning. It explains, in brief, why an A5 jailbreak is currently not possible.

How could pod2g have an untethered 4S and dev teams still haven't released tools to achieve this at home ?

The exploit I used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account, and can't be released publicly.
It's the same reason why @MuscleNerd has an iPad 2 tethered jailbreak but couldn't distribute it.

So, we need to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.

Why A4 version of Corona was easier to release ?

Because a tethered jailbreak is a good way to install Corona!

Why don't you do a tethered jailbreak then ?

A tethered jailbreak also relies on an exploitable vulnerability that we still haven't found yet !

pod2g, release this stuff quick, [your insult here], I've waited enough now.
While an A5 jailbreak will likely happen at some point in the future, don't expect it anytime soon. The fact that an untethered A4 iOS 5 jailbreak exists has no influence on the timeliness of the untethered A5 jailbreak's release. Patience is a virtue. A largely ignored one, but still a virtue.

That number gets smaller though when you take into account those people that are actually into iPhones and then those that dont already work for someone where they wouldnt be able to develop a jailbreak.
Yea, not saying that USA is the only place with Iphones. But if you take into account the rest of the world... There should be a couple of Russian Hackers and a couple of Chinese Hackers that have already figured this stuff out... Just makes my point even stronger...

It does, but then you have to factor in my other points. By the time these people have jobs most of them cannot get into developing a jailbreak for whatever reason. We pretty much rely on genius teenagers to do it. Then they grow older, get jobs and move on eg. geohot, comex.

      Couldn't agree more.
What's even more crazy is that these few dedicated developers don't get the respect they deserve. Honestly though, what would we do if our debs got fed up and decided to walk away. Granted I doubt that would be an end to jailbreaking but it would definitely be a huge pause in the jb community.

I wonder if you paid the $100 for the deb account you get 100 licenses, so you could jailbreak 100 ip4s right now if you had what pod2g has but I wonder if he would let his current work get out like that?

And you could get the money back by charging $5 for jailbreaks and then after you make the $100 back send the rest to pod2g???

if the jailbreak REQ dev account why dont someone with a dev account remove all credit cards from the account so nothing can be bought with it. and ask for a donation and they get 6 hour acces before the password is changed. if i had a dev account i would do this.

I doubt they want that method getting out. Keeping that to themselves gives them the ability to always jailbreak. Having a jailbroken device I would think makes it easier to find other ways to jailbreak it. Ways that they can then develop and release to the public.

Idk...thinking bout jumping ship. My iPhone is great but it's starting to get a bit complicated to get a jb. I mean, right firm ware, correct build, risk your old jb, one to two week upgrade window. Heck, I'm having trouble upgrading period! I've been here since the beginning and I can't remember a time that I would have considered another phone till now.

To all you whiners and cursers, @pod2g does not personally owe you anything. Quit ******** about it! You all need to have your ModMyi accounts deleted, your iDevices confiscated and be banned from ever owning an Apple product again.

      Shut up or help JB.

Pod2g said possible release within a week. Nothing changed between then and this new blog post. It's explaining his status, he's working on it. His last tweet is telling everyone to update a5 devices to 5.0.1 and he never recounted that statement. Have a little faith and stay at 5.0.1, it looks like he's very close. He just explained the last step needed to complete the jb.

I honestly think he should charge $5 for the jailbreak. A lot of those whiners don't know what a debit card is.
