  • Pod2g Updates Blog With A5 Jailbreak FAQ Explaining Why it is Not Currently Possible

A4 iDevice users have been enjoying the labor of love that is the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for over a week now. However, A5 device owners (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) still live in a jailbreakless world, and apparently many have expressed their displeasure to pod2g.

This displeasure resulted in pod2g posting the following FAQ on his blog this morning. It explains, in brief, why an A5 jailbreak is currently not possible.

How could pod2g have an untethered 4S and dev teams still haven't released tools to achieve this at home ?

The exploit I used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account, and can't be released publicly.
It's the same reason why @MuscleNerd has an iPad 2 tethered jailbreak but couldn't distribute it.

So, we need to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.

Why A4 version of Corona was easier to release ?

Because a tethered jailbreak is a good way to install Corona!

Why don't you do a tethered jailbreak then ?

A tethered jailbreak also relies on an exploitable vulnerability that we still haven't found yet !

pod2g, release this stuff quick, [your insult here], I've waited enough now.
While an A5 jailbreak will likely happen at some point in the future, don't expect it anytime soon. The fact that an untethered A4 iOS 5 jailbreak exists has no influence on the timeliness of the untethered A5 jailbreak's release. Patience is a virtue. A largely ignored one, but still a virtue.

Everyone that complains about the jailbreak may or may come can just piss off. If its so fricken important to you that you believe you have the right to lash out at pod2g why don't you do it yourself? The developers that do this work do it on their own free will yet there are people that think they are entitled to the result of their hard work. Grow up you fetus faced douche bags!

Good luck with that. You'd have to kidnap him fro Google who, I'm sure, pays richly for his employment. Geohotz days of jailbreaking are on sabbatical until he strikes out on his own again.

First off, what? Try proof reading.

I love it when people hop on the bandwagon and simply repeat what they just read over the past 20 threads...

      It's so productive...

I wanna say that all of the complaining people are doing about the JB can always try to do some of this work themselves if you think it should be done so soon. Be part of the solution not part of the problem. All of the time Pod2g has to dedicate to awnsering questions for ungrateful people he could be finding the exploit we all want.

I'm glad I stuck with my iPhone 4! It's a tad sluggish with iOS 5, but not unbearable.

Trust me I am not laughing here but really.... everyone said go ahead and update to 5.0.1 because the jailbreak is coming... People said it here, DinoZambas said it on YT in yesterdays video, other websites said it... now we are hearing its not going to happen for a while so why all the hype when people would know that this stuff in advance about the "developers account".

I think this is all very fishy. I haven't bought and iPad 2 or an iPhone 4s because of this very reason. I would bet that they have something in store for a big reveal.

pod2g, release this stuff quick, [your insult here], I've waited enough now.
Is more the reason than anything... People be hating, insulting and ignorant and pod2g has done had enough of it. I applaud him for teaching the haters a lesson.

All my iDevices are jailbroken with a untethered jailbreak and that is items numbering 8 items now. Got my family well covered with everything they need. If did the two iPhone 4's with 5.0.1 last weekend and everything went great.

I guess thats a clever idea.. (registered developer).
Chances are its Xcode and not iTunes. This way isn't new at all there's many people out there that know how to do this. The iPad 2 was jail broke like 2 days after release using a method similar to this.

GeoHot works for Facebook not google by the way.

You are right I did jump on the bandwagon and is not productive like you said, but all the negativity towards the developers just frustrates me and I felt compelled to say something. Next time I'll keep my comments to myself unless they are productive proof read

I dont get y people are mad about not having a jailbreak. By now u guys should know the difficulties of making a jailbreak for new devices. If u guys cant stand a device thts not jailbroken then STOP BUYING THE NEWER DEVICES!! I would say be patient on buying the new devices but apparently some people are not.Just be glad someone is trying to jailbreak the a5 devices. I dont know anyone else trying. Be happy tht ur lucky enough to have a ipad2 or a 4S as it is. I wish i had one

You should be able to go back to 4.3.3 using your SHSH Blobs in Cydia and jailbreak with JailbreakMe 3.0. Not 5.0.1 but still jailbroken.

I dont get why, with all the millions of people in the USA, why its only 1 person who can figure this this stuff out. Just the law of averages would lead me to believe that there should be dozens of people capable of creating a JB if its even possible. Unless the actual method is so arcane and twisted that you would HAVE to be a former developer that worked FOR apple to ever figure this out. That would make more sense as to why only 1 person seems to be smart enough to crack this...

Im sure there are many more people capable of doing it. Especially if you include the whole world (iPhone's are available other places lol )

That number gets smaller though when you take into account those people that are actually into iPhones and then those that dont already work for someone where they wouldnt be able to develop a jailbreak.

The title of the thread is very discouraging making us believe that a 4S JB is currently not possible at all. When pod2g clearly has an untethered 4S but can't release it due to reasons mentioned on his blog.

I went ahead and updated my iPad2 as well losing the jailbreak...but honestly the jailbreak on the iPad2 isn't NEARLY as beneficial as jailbreaking an iPhone. I decided that even if they never release the jailbreak I'd rather have 5.0.1 anyway because it allows me to mirror the iPad on my AppleTV...which is cooler than any Cydia tweak I had.
