  • Pod2g Updates Blog With A5 Jailbreak FAQ Explaining Why it is Not Currently Possible

A4 iDevice users have been enjoying the labor of love that is the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for over a week now. However, A5 device owners (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) still live in a jailbreakless world, and apparently many have expressed their displeasure to pod2g.

This displeasure resulted in pod2g posting the following FAQ on his blog this morning. It explains, in brief, why an A5 jailbreak is currently not possible.

How could pod2g have an untethered 4S and dev teams still haven't released tools to achieve this at home ?

The exploit I used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account, and can't be released publicly.
It's the same reason why @MuscleNerd has an iPad 2 tethered jailbreak but couldn't distribute it.

So, we need to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.

Why A4 version of Corona was easier to release ?

Because a tethered jailbreak is a good way to install Corona!

Why don't you do a tethered jailbreak then ?

A tethered jailbreak also relies on an exploitable vulnerability that we still haven't found yet !

pod2g, release this stuff quick, [your insult here], I've waited enough now.
While an A5 jailbreak will likely happen at some point in the future, don't expect it anytime soon. The fact that an untethered A4 iOS 5 jailbreak exists has no influence on the timeliness of the untethered A5 jailbreak's release. Patience is a virtue. A largely ignored one, but still a virtue.

Now I understood why pod2g said: With some luck we could expect a release in a week.
Oh well.... Let's hope he and his team will find a way to release it to public.
Keep it up. I/we have faith in yall

Pod2g works his butt off for no guaranteed pay for this work and deserves kudos not backbiting and insults. Buck up be patient and if he's lucky he will prevail and you will benefit from his perseverance! If you are one of the naysayers quit whining, learn how to jailbreak and do it yourself if you think it should be so easy to go up against an army of developers at Apple and can't wait for the labors of others.

These impatient, ungrateful, morons who badger and ridicule Pod2G are going to cost us, the patient and supportive people, something important.

Because he and only a select few put in the time and effort to provide us with a jailbreak, they also take the time to update us along the way. Something that I, if in Pod2G's position, would be very quick to keep it quiet until done. If I got that same barrage of insults and demands, I'm not even sure I would have the desire to finish.

We are lucky, selfish, and lazy to not find our own jailbreak. We rely on others. Now I mean no offense to anyone, but it is true .. at least for me. My talent is elsewhere in society so I leave it to the folks who have the right skill. I support them as best I can, as we all should.

I encourage and challenge every MMi member to sign in or sign up for Twitter and tweet to Pod2G for support. Make sure he knows that this support comes from the loyal fans over at MMi.

OMFG...will you winning little babies shut the f**k up...if it bothers you that much sell your iPhone for a crapberry...I'm grateful to pod2g for all the work he's done and continuing to do...but I also hope he finds the hole and it's a big bugger 😄

People should def be patient. Agreed.

BUT... my opinion is that any jailbreak developer who accepts donations from the public in any way, does in fact hold a certain amount of responsibility to produce jailbreak tools. And said developer should also be open to public scrutiny.

And I'm not saying @pod2g took any donations. I'm just making a statement.

For all the work thats been done by all devs so far let me say ...

It seems to be a case of getting "to happy, to early". He jumped the gun in saying it would be out in a week. While that would be awesome, waiting some more won't make me cry in the corner. And to the peeps who have negative things to say to, and about the developers... you could always go develop your own JB since you all seem to think it is such an easy task. Let us know when its done ok?

Thanks again to all devs working on the jailbreak cause!

This is a blatantly stupid remark. It's remarks like this that piss off the developers. Really!! Next time use your head.

This is why I'm unclear as to what this article is really saying... is it "...Why It's Not Possible" or is it "...Why It's Not Already Out"? Big difference.

Patience is the key though. Bottom line: if you purchased an iAnything with the EXPECTATION that a jailbreak would always be readily available, you have no one to blame but yourself. It's been said to death, but it's true - want a jailbreak faster? Do it yourself. Otherwise, have a seat and wait.

      *daps Pod2g for his efforts*
      Well said.

why did i get the impression there will never be an iphone 4s jailbreak?

makes me think its gonna be even super harder to discover an iphone 5 untethered jailbreak... double
