This tweak will let you blacken your screen instead of going to the lock screen.
If you ever wanted your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to simply dim its display to a black state instead of locking itself after the set time in your Settings application - then this tweak might be for you. It has been dubbed Dim To Black Screen and instead of auto-locking, your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch will simply auto-dim. It was created by iOS developer Manvir Singh. The screen won't only dim - but it will actually turn off. This means that your iDevice's battery will be saved and you can still have the peace of mind that your iDevice isn't useable until you press a button so that you don't butt-dial or something of that sort.
Because this tweak makes it so that your device doesn't lock but it dims instead, one thing to note is that it will pose as a security risk. There will be no lock screen when your auto-lock setting is used which means that you can potentially be leaving your iDevice up for grabs. The screen will only blacken when you have auto-lock set to a certain amount of time. In that instance, at the time you have set, your screen will go black instead of locking. You can use the power/lock button to lock your device though - so the developer doesn't leave you bare-bones dry.
If you're an iDevice power-user and you set your iDevice down on a desk for a moment to use your computer and it auto-locks, I think that this tweak is a must for you because the lock screen can get cumbersome if you unlock it many times per minute (it's even worse when you have a pass code). You will be able to resume your work as soon as you pick it up again without unlocking the iDevice or entering any pass codes (assuming you let it auto-lock instead of pressing the power/lock button). If you're paranoid about security, I wouldn't recommend this at all. If you're not a power user, then you probably don't mind having the lock screen every time you go to use your iDevice.
Dim To Black Screen is a free tweak in Cydia, so you can try it and see if you like it. It is compatible with iOS 5 and it doesn't add any settings to your Settings application or add any icons to your home screen. I think that this tweak is a good tweak but only under certain conditions. It is a hit or miss tweak that some people will find useful and some won't. The idea is simple and it works well for what it was intended to do! Let us know how you feel about Dim To Black Screen in the comments.
