  • Redsn0w Updated to Version 0.9.10b2

Today, the iPhone-Dev team has rolled out an update to the iOS 5.0.1-untethering redsn0w 0.9.10 that was released yesterday for non-A5 devices only. As you may recall the untether could have been achieved one of three ways - 1. Installing the Corona untether package from Cydia while already being on a tethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1; 2. Running the updated redsn0w 0.9.10 over the tethered jailbreak that you had on iOS 5.0.1; 3. Completely updating/restoring your iDevice to iOS 5.0.1 and doing a fresh jailbreak using redsn0w 0.9.10.

As we reported yesterday, Saurik tweeted that he released two consecutive updates to the Corona untether package in Cydia in order to keep Corona from breaking the 'launchctl' dependency for numerous applications. All Corona untether users and redsn0w 0.9.10 jailbreakers included were advised to download and install the new Corona update to fix the launchctl problem that had occurred.

Since the Corona untether package was fixed yesterday, providing light for tweaks and applications that depended on launchctl including applications like IntelliScreenX and OpenSSH, the iPhone-Dev team found it necessary to update redsn0w to version 0.9.10b2 which would fix that issue for redsn0w users too. This way, redsn0w users would have no reason to install the Corona package to fix the launchctl problem.

If you jailbroke iOS 5.0.1 yesterday using redsn0w 0.9.10b1, then we recommend that you do a jailbreak over it today with the new redsn0w 0.9.10b2 so that that launchctl problem can be addressed. If you installed the Corona untether package after reading our article about it yesterday to fix the problem, you can uninstall it after you jailbreak over your existing jailbreak with the new redsn0w. When you do so, just make sure that you don't re-select the Install Cydia option and that you power down the device before going into DFU mode. If you're using Windows, run redsn0w 0.9.10b2 with administrator privileges. Here is the iPhone-Dev team's complete update description via their blog:

Always be sure to do a controlled "slide to power off" shutdown of your device before running redsn0w.

It's from very high serve traffic. It can't enter the server for the request "you" are making. It's happening to everyone. If u did the untethered jb over the tethered jb-then follow the new article about Redsnow b2 (links are live). It should fix your launchctl issue. However-Posix error is probably from traffic. Hold tight....

So if you do not use cydia for those tweaks it really will not affect you !
some tweaks use launchctl <~ that is what it fixes
Ohhhh I see now. So I can't just install the updated Corona package to fix this issue? Rather than overwriting my current jailbreak with the updated redsn0w?

If you didn't do the jb over the tethered jb-and all is fine so far-you're good to go.

I really don't want to restore my phone all over again so I am continuing to try and rejailbreak w redsn0w 0.9.10b2 hoping it will eventually go back to normal... or until someone figures out what is going wrong.

AGAIN: If there is nothing wrong w your phone as is. DO NOT JAILBREAK over the beta1... it may actually break your jailbreak! I will post screenshots later.

      OK HERE IS THE FIX
if your are jail breaking over the jailbreak, and phone appears broken!

And all is back to normal.... hope this helps for anyone who Jailbreak over Jailbreak!

Oh okay so I'm all good, because yesterday I did a fresh restore of a custom 5.0.1 and jailbroke it untethered. (:

Ok can anyone tell me what problems is there? Is it the Cydia problems while refreshing?

      So heres the deal.

If you jail broke your device with the corona thingamajiger, then use only that to update.

If you jail broke your device with redsn0w then only use redsn0w to update etc...

And as a final note if you are having absolutely no problems with your current jail break, no need to do anything.

Apples restore verification servers are under heavy load, if you backed up your blobs then you can build a signed ipsw and just use itunes to restore that way.

      Do'h
I tried the new JB for redsn0w and still can't get anything installed from cydia that I need (SBSettings, etc) I can't even add the repo for BigBoss (http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/) - everytime I try I get "Did not Find Repository - The indicated repo could not be found. This could be becase you are trying to add a legacy installer repo (thse are not supported). Also, this interface is only capable of working with exact repository URLS

Not true. If you had a tethered jailbreak and then put the untethered over the top using redsn0w, you do not HAVE to use redsn0w to fix it. You could use Corona.

Seems the best bet is a fresh install and jailbreak though :/

I know , i should have rephrased a bit differently. I mean you can't download corona after your untethered and uninstall it. Otherwise you'd be stuck in the situation i was in. :<

Just wanted to say I updated successfully from tethered 5.0. I downloaded redsn0w (last nights version) updated my ip4 to 5.0.1, ran redsn0w and came out with an untethered jailbreak 5.0.1. Cydia icon was white but after a few resprings Cydia icon was normal again. Thanks to the devs for their hard work!! Can't wait for the iPad 2 jailbreak!

Do I need to jailbreak again using the updated version of redsnow?
I went from a 4.3.3 untethered jailbreak to 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak on an iPhone 4 and so far everything is running smoothly and haven't experienced any problems whatsoever. So am I good to go and should I ignore this redsnow update or should I still jailbreak again with the newest version of redsnow? Please reply, thanks!

Any idea of when a new sn0wbreeze is coming out? I like my old baseband . could I make a custon 5.0.1 with the current sn0wbreeze and then use this to make it untethered?

If pawnagetool 5.01 was used to make custom ipsw, is there anything to fix?
