  • Cydia Gets Updated to Version 1.1.3

Cydia has been updated with the new jailbreak.

This morning voices around the world cheered as hacker pod2g whipped up an untethered jailbreak for all A4 devices and older running iOS 5.0.1. The untethered jailbreak was released in two forms - one of which was the new redsn0w 0.9.10b1 and the other was the Cydia package known as Corona that could be installed while you had the tethered jailbreak to untether your iDevice. As most probably simply restored the device to start fresh with a new jailbreak - you probably noticed something different at the bottom of Cydia, or you may not have, and that would be that it has been updated from version 1.1.1 to version 1.1.3.

Cydia, by Jay Freeman (Saurik), is likely the greatest single solitary thing about jailbreaking. It's a powerful application installer engine and an online store that holds a huge library of jailbreak developer creations. Some are free and some are paid but in the end they all serve one purpose and that's to make your iDevice do things that you know Apple would never permit you to do. With Cydia being updated today, you are probably wondering what's different. After all, the interface looks exactly the same and nothing appears to have changed.

The changes in Cydia version 1.1.3 have to do with internal fixes. With no change-log available for public viewing, nothing huge was introduced in the Cydia 1.1.3 update. There were some minor changes including iOS 5 stability and better error reporting (as told to us by Saurik). From first judgement, it feels a little more fluid and quicker at loading things. Of course, with a new jailbreak, updating Cydia to work with it is always necessary.

If you used the Corona patch to get the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak then you will be able to download the Cydia version 1.1.3 update from the changes tab - it will pop up as an essential update. If you went the route that I did and you completely restored the device to start from a clean slate, then you will have noticed that Cydia was installed as the updated version automatically - you won't need to apply any updates or changes to it.

Have you noticed anything different in the new Cydia? Share in the comments.

NOTE: Sources are failing right now because of the amount of traffic updating to the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. Give it a day or two and they will be up and running again. The repository servers are being slammed just like Apple's servers were when iOS 5 was launched.

EDIT: Article updated with reasons for the Cydia update.

Hey, I tried that and ditto with iFile. It says registration failed.

Anyone else notice that after yesterdays upgrades Winterboard stops working and brings few problems?
It doesn't work and it blocks SBsettings and FolderEnhancer too...
I made a clean install (I own an iPhone 4 on 4.3.1) and all tweaks are working, but I didn't install Winterboard cos I need SBSettings and FolderEnhancer...

There is a lesson to be learned for a lot of people after this recent upgrade cycle: Install PkgBackup, learn howto use it, and make backups. that way you don't have to rely on Cydia to re-install all of your packages after an upgrade. Of course if your coming from 4.3.3 or lower firmwares a lot of your stuff might not be 5.0+ compatible but for those that were already on 5.0 or 5.0.1 it would have solved a lot of problems

How does PkgBackup bypass Cydia? You would still run into the same problem no?

Hope BigBoss repo starts working again. Had a tethered jailbreak on ios 5.0.1 on my iphone 4 and zero issues. Used PKGbackup, then did a clean restore through itunes, then a fresh jailbreak with the new untethered, no i can't install PKGbackup to restore my phone to how it was when jailbroken. Kind of defeats the whole purpose, lol! Here you have a jailbreak but cannot install any themes, app, tweaks, etc until who knows when. Even tried Cydia random times of the day like 3am, 6am, etc and still no luck. As if BigBoss just took his repo 100% out of cydia for who knows how long?

I was running a tethered jailbreak on my iPhone 4 on 5.0.1, backup and restored it to fresh 5.0.1 and untethered it with redsn0w 9.10b1 and am having the same problems as others I've read. Updates have been continuing to time out and/or not even download them. I also don't even have the bigboss repo, and some other repos and packages I've tried downloading have either timed out, failed to fetch something, or errors in my usr/bin/dpkg and such. does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong and how to help me???
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Coming signs of the jailbreak world coming to an end! Lol. Idk, hope it's very temporary as in by later today will be working again. Many people seem to claim it's "server overload" of too many users but i dont believe that. If that were the case then there would be spikes and valleys of when u can access repos. In this case, there is no repo!!! As in no server! Talking about BigBoss mainly but also goes for other mainstream repos as well. Maybe it has something to do with the new Cydia? Idk, just hope i can be fixed soon.

I've managed to install all tweaks from cydia on both mine and my wife's iPhone 4. Don't give up. Keep trying! Cydia was very very fast for me at 9am GMT.

So I put the iPhone in DFU mode and restore the 4.3.1 but no lucj :-/
The new Cydia messed: SBsettings, Folders Enhancer, Winterboard... I can install them, but they don't work anymore...
      I guess it's compatibility related, bah :-(

I have an untethered jb with jailbreakme I have an iPhone 4 vzw on 4.2.6. After the upgrade none of my jailbroken apps or winter board works. Do I have to re jailbreak my phone or will all my stuff start working again after all the Cydia madness slows down?

It backs up all of your installed packages to either dropbox or sugarsync. after you restore/re-JB the only thing you need from cydia is to reinstall PKGBackup and run a restore. hope that helps a little. I suck at explaining things

But doesn't PkgBackup install the packages from the same sources Cydia does?

one thing that i have noticed about the new cydia, is the searching.... when you are searching for something and you click on the app, and then you go back to the search it usually did the complete search and you had to wait, but now it lets you type something else in instead of having to wait....

sorry i know that its a bit confusing, but i couldnt think of a simpler way to put that

Dont give up, big boss repo started working again after a few hours!
But I do have other issues, when I try to install alot of the tweaks, it says host unreachable and I have to try 3 times b4 it finally works. Is that also a sign of server overload?

new Cydia has been released so there will be some issues and people using Cydia will be at a high level so everything will not work at the moment.
