  • Untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak for Non-A5 Devices Released

@pod2g has released the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for non-A5 devices.

Let that marinate for a minute. Take a deep breath. Start downloading.

The long awaited untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 has been highly anticipated and extensively chronicled with every little bit of news making headlines in the Jailbreak community. Recently @pod2g handed off his hard work to both the iPhone devteam and chronic devteam.

“A few days ago, @pod2g gave the untether to both the iPhone devteam and the chronic devteam. We’ve put it into redsn0w 0.9.10 and PwnageTool, and the chronic devteam put it into a Cydia package (the same set of exploits is in all three)” — iPhone devteam
Here’s how to finally get the untethered jailbreak:

    • The untether is for iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G
    • If you have one of those devices and are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now! The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1 If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW! See the guides at places like iClarified.com if you don’t know how. Once you’re at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.
    • If you’re already at 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you have two choices: either run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that), or install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam. The patches are the same regardless of which you choose.
    • Some of you are using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration. If so, do not attempt to install this untether over that setup! You will most likely get into a reboot cycle. Do a sync and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the jailbreak + untether. — iPhone devteam
While the iPhone devteam doesn’t accept donations they’ve put a link at the end of redsn0w allowing jailbreakers to donate directly to @pod2g who is almost solely responsible for providing this jailbreak to the world.

While an extremely large portion of the iDevice jailbreak community can finally rejoice in an untethered jailbreak, a growing portion of A5 device owners (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) still aren’t able to jailbreak their devices. Thankfully @pod2g is hard at work on an A5 device jailbreak, and as always follow @pod2g on Twitter or check his blog for updates on his progress.

I just JBroke my iPad (it was on 4.3.5 for the longest time) and I had no problems. I know the repos/servers are overloaded with traffic so when I opened Cydia for the first time, it would not refresh properly. I will refresh later tonight or tomorrow so I can add all the things back on my iPad like sbsetting, etc. I'm just glad I have 5.x, untethered, with a Cydia refresh being the only thing I need to do to be like it was before. Once this is finished, I will move to my ip4

+1 on the big boss issue.

I was guessing its the servers just getting hit hard today. I tried the manual install of the .list file but still didn't work. May just have to wait a bit, be patient, and wait for the servers catch up.

Thanks for the JB devs. We really appreciate your hard work. All devices except my 4S are done. Just waiting here patiently for that one. Keep up the good work fella's.

Thank you, I rather not go to 5.0.1 because of all the restoring I will have to do. Thank you again for your response, I will try this out now.

How can you do it wrong, I updated the 4 not 4s to 5.0.1 and then used the latest redsnow to jailbreak. It goes through all jailbreak sequences and then gets stuck on reboot. what am I doing wrong?

Just dl'ed redsnow and jailbroke from apples firmware (which i restored to successfully from 4.2.6). Everything seemed to work fine, booted up, opened Cydia.

Loaded packages and then an error screen which i accidentally hit return to cydia button before reading much. I now have a cydia that has three packages that i did not install (I'm assuming packages that are a basis for cydia) and can't find simple packages like activator.

Anyone have any idea what happened? Should i re-jailbreak? (which idk if that's even possible as this is the first problem i've had with a jailbreak).

any ideas or how to do a fresh "do-over" (besides restoring to 5.0.1 and re-jailbreaking) would be appreciated.
