  • Untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak for Non-A5 Devices Released

@pod2g has released the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for non-A5 devices.

Let that marinate for a minute. Take a deep breath. Start downloading.

The long awaited untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 has been highly anticipated and extensively chronicled with every little bit of news making headlines in the Jailbreak community. Recently @pod2g handed off his hard work to both the iPhone devteam and chronic devteam.

“A few days ago, @pod2g gave the untether to both the iPhone devteam and the chronic devteam. We’ve put it into redsn0w 0.9.10 and PwnageTool, and the chronic devteam put it into a Cydia package (the same set of exploits is in all three)” — iPhone devteam
Here’s how to finally get the untethered jailbreak:

    • The untether is for iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G
    • If you have one of those devices and are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now! The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1 If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW! See the guides at places like iClarified.com if you don’t know how. Once you’re at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.
    • If you’re already at 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you have two choices: either run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that), or install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam. The patches are the same regardless of which you choose.
    • Some of you are using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration. If so, do not attempt to install this untether over that setup! You will most likely get into a reboot cycle. Do a sync and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the jailbreak + untether. — iPhone devteam
While the iPhone devteam doesn’t accept donations they’ve put a link at the end of redsn0w allowing jailbreakers to donate directly to @pod2g who is almost solely responsible for providing this jailbreak to the world.

While an extremely large portion of the iDevice jailbreak community can finally rejoice in an untethered jailbreak, a growing portion of A5 device owners (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) still aren’t able to jailbreak their devices. Thankfully @pod2g is hard at work on an A5 device jailbreak, and as always follow @pod2g on Twitter or check his blog for updates on his progress.

I had trouble with this as well, fixed it by manually putting it in DFU before the instructions screen. once it is in DFU mode, it automatically starts installing.

But, I am sure a lot of people (as me, for example) will be donating. This will not be free. Did "pod2g" say he didn't want any donations and that this was done for the well being of the community??? Give me a break!!!

I am sure you know that A LOT of people earn a LOT of money with this jailbreaking stuff! How many packages, sources, themes, tweaks, etc are there in Cydia to be bought? Probably these people wouldn't earn any money if it wasn't for Cydia. Ask Saurik...

There is a lot of money circulating in the jailbreak community!!!

So stop criticising people! Maybe the people that criticize, are people that spent their money buying apps/tweaks/packages (on own free will of course).

What these developers do, is in their own interest as well! A lot of people earn money with this!

So stop acting as this is a free job for the community!

There is nothing like a free meal!

That's the thing, they develope the jailbreaks and don't charge to use, pod2g has a donate link, but he doesn't require it, and the devteam doesn't accept donations, as it states in the op, however, they may charge for tweaks that they develope, which still isn't charging for the jailbreak itself, they charge for the tweaks, which is additional coding that they do, but yea, my main point is that people need to appreciate what they is given to them, I appreciate the work they do, I don't criticize them for how long it takes, or anything, it just bothers me when people post all these negative comments towards the work they do simply because it doesn't benefit them

I think iBooks is a known issue, dosn't work on any 5.x JB. Someone has found a fix, can't recall who, but he says it's very messy so has passed the fix over to Pod2g (I think) to tidy it up and release it.

I did that too. I can get it in DFU mode no problem. But when it gets to the step where it is supposed to restart to a white screen, the apple logo shows up instead and then it just restarts like normal. No jailbreak or anything.

Exact same problem here. iFile launches and then almost instantly dies. Having the same issue now on an old bootrom 3GS, so I suspect this is related to a recent Cydia update (mobilesubstrate?) and not the Corona untether itself.

I just jailbroke my iPhone, but the BigBoss repo that is installed by default isn't showing me any of the apps. Does anyone know how to make them show up?

Has anybody else noticed that when you do a full restore to 5.0.1 and actually use the new version of redsnow to untether jb your device that SBSettings is NOT available in cydia? i've tried everything. Not quite sure what is going on here, but I think the best way to do it is JB tethered using the newest tether software from redsnow and then use the cydia package from Chronic Dev Team to get the untether patch. I've tried using the software to just go straight into the untethered exploit twice and both times I have had nothing but problems. i just checked and BigBoss repo has NO packages in it. For some reason Cydia isn't downloading everything. This is so frustrating. Am I missing something? I have refreshed Cydia like 20 times, rebooted phone a dozen times and I keep retrying. This is incredibly frustrating...

Just need to be patient. Cydia's server is taking a few hits today :-)
