  • Untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak for Non-A5 Devices Released

@pod2g has released the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for non-A5 devices.

Let that marinate for a minute. Take a deep breath. Start downloading.

The long awaited untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 has been highly anticipated and extensively chronicled with every little bit of news making headlines in the Jailbreak community. Recently @pod2g handed off his hard work to both the iPhone devteam and chronic devteam.

“A few days ago, @pod2g gave the untether to both the iPhone devteam and the chronic devteam. We’ve put it into redsn0w 0.9.10 and PwnageTool, and the chronic devteam put it into a Cydia package (the same set of exploits is in all three)” — iPhone devteam
Here’s how to finally get the untethered jailbreak:

    • The untether is for iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G
    • If you have one of those devices and are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now! The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1 If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW! See the guides at places like iClarified.com if you don’t know how. Once you’re at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.
    • If you’re already at 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you have two choices: either run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that), or install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam. The patches are the same regardless of which you choose.
    • Some of you are using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration. If so, do not attempt to install this untether over that setup! You will most likely get into a reboot cycle. Do a sync and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the jailbreak + untether. — iPhone devteam
While the iPhone devteam doesn’t accept donations they’ve put a link at the end of redsn0w allowing jailbreakers to donate directly to @pod2g who is almost solely responsible for providing this jailbreak to the world.

While an extremely large portion of the iDevice jailbreak community can finally rejoice in an untethered jailbreak, a growing portion of A5 device owners (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) still aren’t able to jailbreak their devices. Thankfully @pod2g is hard at work on an A5 device jailbreak, and as always follow @pod2g on Twitter or check his blog for updates on his progress.

This is great. Nothing like being able to fix an issue with a reboot.

Thanks MMI for the info, links and the other members who were tipping MMI off on this.

      Another Christmas gift!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks pod2G and all the devs!

I feel like no ones answering the question, if I'm on 5.0 can I use an OTA update or do I need a custom ipsw?

You can never use OTA when jailbroken.

Does anyone know if this JB will be available without going into DFU-mode similar to Jailbreakme? For us with broken power-buttons

Has anyone had issues with installing the sources in cydia? it takes absolutely FOREVER!! or it doesn't go at all. It just sits on the Done: Release, but will not finish install or even the uninstall. I remember having this issue on a redsn0w JB quite a few jailbreaks ago (i think in the beginning of iOS 4) and I could never get it fixed until I went to Greenp0ison 4.2.1. You usually get a "POSIX: Operation Timed Out" message after awhile, but then itll take about an hour to go to Return to Cydia pop up button. Why is this and how can it be fixed?

iPod Touch 4G here, using semi-tether, downloaded this latest version and tried to run twice now, no joy, keep getting Xp popping up with redsn0w.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. If I click the part where I can see the error it's pointing too msvcrt.dll, anyone help?

What sources are you installing? All the sources you need should already be in there. You just gotta wait till they finish downloading the packages and such.

Any packages. I've tried numerous. Like the source for my bitesms on ios5 and even the sources that are in the repository section do the same thing. im trying to install the winterboarder source and its literally been on the screen installing for 48 minutes. It's every source I try to install. It's doing it on my fiances phone as well. I was on 5.0 and did a fresh restore to 5.0.1, then used the new redsnow to untether jb. Not sure what is going on. Anybody else having this issue

Anyone else having iMessage and Facetime unable to activate? I did a fresh restore to 5.0.1 and applied jb through redsnow. All is well except I'm stuck in "waiting to activate" on those 2 items. Calls, text and all else is great.
