  • Untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak for Non-A5 Devices Released

@pod2g has released the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for non-A5 devices.

Let that marinate for a minute. Take a deep breath. Start downloading.

The long awaited untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 has been highly anticipated and extensively chronicled with every little bit of news making headlines in the Jailbreak community. Recently @pod2g handed off his hard work to both the iPhone devteam and chronic devteam.

“A few days ago, @pod2g gave the untether to both the iPhone devteam and the chronic devteam. We’ve put it into redsn0w 0.9.10 and PwnageTool, and the chronic devteam put it into a Cydia package (the same set of exploits is in all three)” — iPhone devteam
Here’s how to finally get the untethered jailbreak:

    • The untether is for iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G
    • If you have one of those devices and are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now! The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1 If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW! See the guides at places like iClarified.com if you don’t know how. Once you’re at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.
    • If you’re already at 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you have two choices: either run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that), or install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam. The patches are the same regardless of which you choose.
    • Some of you are using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration. If so, do not attempt to install this untether over that setup! You will most likely get into a reboot cycle. Do a sync and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the jailbreak + untether. — iPhone devteam
While the iPhone devteam doesn’t accept donations they’ve put a link at the end of redsn0w allowing jailbreakers to donate directly to @pod2g who is almost solely responsible for providing this jailbreak to the world.

While an extremely large portion of the iDevice jailbreak community can finally rejoice in an untethered jailbreak, a growing portion of A5 device owners (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) still aren’t able to jailbreak their devices. Thankfully @pod2g is hard at work on an A5 device jailbreak, and as always follow @pod2g on Twitter or check his blog for updates on his progress.

I was running a tethered jailbreak on my iPhone 4 on 5.0.1, backup and restored it to fresh 5.0.1 and untethered it with redsn0w 9.10b1 and am having the same problems as others I've read. Updates have been continuing to time out and/or not even download them. I also don't even have the bigboss repo, and some other repos and packages I've tried downloading have either timed out, failed to fetch something, or errors in my usr/bin/dpkg and such. does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong and how to help me???
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Ok so RedSn0w will only work if you have Pwnagetool 5.0.1. because you need that to get your firmware so RedSn0w will recognize your phone...but where you get pwnagetool for windows? so far all I see it for is Mac.

Pwnage tool is mac only. On windows use snowbreeze to make a custom 5.0.1 then install corona to untether it. You only need to use them if you need to preserve your baseband though. Not understanding what you mean with the other thing you were saying. You shouldnt need to point the latest redsnow to any firmware. Just choose jailbreak.

curious is the unlock still working with 5.0.1? or are their special conditions?
Im currently at iP 4, Ver:4.3.3 Firm:01.59.00 Jailbroken and unlocked Pawnage and Ultrasnow.

If I understand correctly I can just update my firmware via iTunes (with the right package 5.0.1)
Then do the Pawnage dance. So after all this is Ultrasnow still the Unlock path?
      Thanks to all.

Yes, the unlock is working with 5.0.1.
You guys do NOT need PwnageTool if you guys are on windows.. just use redsn0w go to "extras -> create custom IPSW" that will be a preserved base band. Then go into PWNED DFU mode and then shift / command + restore and select the custom IPSW you just downloaded and bam, you have just preserved your base band so now all you need to do is jailbreak it via redsn0w.

As they've said several times, the repo servers are being hammered with folks trying to access them at the same time. The ONLY recourse is to wait and try later. In a day or two things should be back to "normal", we hope.

Try redsnow again. But this time before opening it, right-click on the redsnow.exe file and choose properties. Then choose the compatibility tab and check the boxes that say run as administrator and run this program in compatibility mode (leave that as windows xp sp3). Then click apply, then ok. Then try running redsnow again to jailbreak.

It's because the servers are overloaded.

So how would I go about unlocking a 3GS on 5.0.1? Just run redsn0w and install the ipad baseband and cydia? Do I need to do a clean restore or no?

      Thanks!

Yes that is what you would do. But be aware of this warning from the dev team:
Owners of newer 3GS iPhones must not flash the iPad baseband. The iPad baseband will not work on 3GS iPhones built later than 2011 week 35. You have a week 35 or later device if your serial # starts with xx135.

It seems that simple. Corona didn't do anything to my iPod. I rebooted to see if it worked and it didn't. I had to restore. I think it had to do something that the fact I updated to 5.0.1 OTA.

Is there something wrong with itunes? I just did a fresh install on 5.0.1 and after fresh install when it restored the back up it installed all the ********** apps back too, that used to not happen before.

I got a very odd problem with a brand new iPod Touch 4G on iOS 5.0.1 bought today. When redsn0w is running it comes to the stage when it reboots the iPod and then you can see all the text on the screen. That reboot is not like a normal reboot, and it worked perfect on an older iPod Touch 4G which I updated from 4.3.1 to iOS 5.0.1 and then jailbroke. But this new one always reboots properly with apple logo and then to lockscreen/battery charging screen.
I tried a full restore, 3 different computers, different settings (XP compatible/admin run) for redsn0w, but every time redsn0w starts it reboots fully.
I jailbroke the old iPod Touch 4G, a iPod Touch 3G and my 3GS, each time without a problem - apart from empty sources in Cydia due to server overload.
Anybody any idea why this brand new iPod Touch 4G can not be jailbroken with redsn0w?

      EDIT:
      I used Win7 32 bit and 64 bit.

So pretty much if the iphone 3GS is older than week 35 and it's on 5.0.1 it cannot be unlocked?

That's right. You can only use Corona w already tethered jb, not OTA. I wonder how you got to Corona without being jailbroken though. Hmm...

I tried what you said...but when I right click on the redsn0w.exe it doesn't show me a "compatibility tab"

I did what you said...opened redsnow when to custom IPSW but it asks me to open a file...not create one

I had jailbroken on 5.0, then did the OTA update to 5.0.1, and then boot tethered again. My iPod was still tethered jailbroken. Then I installed corona.
