  • Untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak for Non-A5 Devices Released

@pod2g has released the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for non-A5 devices.

Let that marinate for a minute. Take a deep breath. Start downloading.

The long awaited untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 has been highly anticipated and extensively chronicled with every little bit of news making headlines in the Jailbreak community. Recently @pod2g handed off his hard work to both the iPhone devteam and chronic devteam.

“A few days ago, @pod2g gave the untether to both the iPhone devteam and the chronic devteam. We’ve put it into redsn0w 0.9.10 and PwnageTool, and the chronic devteam put it into a Cydia package (the same set of exploits is in all three)” — iPhone devteam
Here’s how to finally get the untethered jailbreak:

    • The untether is for iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G
    • If you have one of those devices and are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now! The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1 If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW! See the guides at places like iClarified.com if you don’t know how. Once you’re at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.
    • If you’re already at 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you have two choices: either run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that), or install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam. The patches are the same regardless of which you choose.
    • Some of you are using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration. If so, do not attempt to install this untether over that setup! You will most likely get into a reboot cycle. Do a sync and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the jailbreak + untether. — iPhone devteam
While the iPhone devteam doesn’t accept donations they’ve put a link at the end of redsn0w allowing jailbreakers to donate directly to @pod2g who is almost solely responsible for providing this jailbreak to the world.

While an extremely large portion of the iDevice jailbreak community can finally rejoice in an untethered jailbreak, a growing portion of A5 device owners (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) still aren’t able to jailbreak their devices. Thankfully @pod2g is hard at work on an A5 device jailbreak, and as always follow @pod2g on Twitter or check his blog for updates on his progress.

Update on the issue I explained above.. I followed mindblown's advice and just rebooted ( which alone didn't work ) then I changed to a different USB port, low and behold it worked this time.. I'm now un-tethered ..

WAY TO GO .. thanks pod2g for your contribution =)

Edit: This is awesome, I was fine tethered for so long but you're always nervous something will glitch up, or sometimes I used to reboot just to see if things would perform better.. I'm thrilled to have that worry gone and the ability back..

I'm going to post my problem again hoping to get a response. I have an iPhone 4 running 4.1 right now. I synced it to back everything up, then clicked the update button. iTunes downloaded the 5.0.1 IPSW, backed up my phone, then it wouldn't verify the package saying "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occured (21)." Does anyone know how to fix this short of trying another computer (which I don't have handy right now)?

I had to use TinyUmbrella to exit recovery mode to make my phone usable again.

hmm all i can think of is download the 5.0.1 firmware, connect phone to comp, put phone to dfu mode then open itunes hold shift and click restore and choose the 5.0.1 ipsw and restore
if you edit your hosts file and added sauriks server, you need to delete that as well.
i have never update from itunes, i do it manually because i need to preserve my baseband for unlocking

Have you ever edited your HOSTS file?? If so, restore your original hosts file, or edit your current one an make sure no apple addresses are listed, if some are, delete them, save your HOSTS file, then try again.

Does iOS 5.0.1 slow down A4 devices? Infinity Blade 2 seems slower, also push notification toggle in sbsettings no longer works. May have to go back to 4.3.3.

“@dnbkid521: Anyone else having "hit and miss" issues with corona? Boots untethered fine once, next one may not, next one may...ect? Always boots.. Just may not be jailbroken everytime.. @MuscleNerd @pod2g”

No. It does not slow down devices, un fact I find it faster than 4.3.3
