  • Spire - A Simple Siri Installer for iOS 5 Devices

A trio of iOS developers: Grant Paul (Chpwn), Ryan Petrich, and Steven Troughton-Smith have recently released a new Siri port called Spire. This port mirrors all the iPhone 4S Siri functionality and works on the following iDevices: iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G, and iPad (first generation).

According to a blog post from Chpwn, Spire comes in at around 100mb and the developers recommend connecting to a Wi-Fi network for downloading, not a standard cellular network because of its large file size. As of right now, there have been a few Siri ports which have gone public through Cydia but they were all deemed to be unsafe and illegal by the development community. This was a result of these ports distributing Apple copyrighted materials. According to Chpwn, “Spire uses a new method to obtain the files necessary for Siri, so it doesn’t have the copyright issues encountered by previous attempts.”

There still is a big caveat though – you still have to gain authorization through your own server and an iPhone 4S. Chpwn took the time to explain the caveat with a bit more detail:

However, Spire is not a complete solution. Apple still requires authorization to use Siri, so information from an iPhone 4S is still required. To insert this information, Spire allows you to enter your own proxy server address. By using this (ancient) SiriProxy fork, you can setup a proxy using your own iPhone 4S to insert the needed information reasonably easily. Other solutions for proxying Siri will be listed here as they are developed — perhaps that sort of proxy might be included in the main SiriProxy repository.
As of right now, Spire has been deemed to be the best Siri port to use until the iPhone 4S jailbreak is publicly released. According to Steven Troughton-Smith, “when the iPhone 4S is jailbroken, then we can avoid the proxy server issues. For those of you who are still interested in downloading Spire for your jailbroken iOS 5 devices, you can do so by hitting the link below:

I just restored my iPhone4 last night and not putting Siri back on it. I never use it and Siri is just a gimmick anyway. Do you really think you'll be walking down the street and ask Siri a question? Wow, if you do you REALLY need to get a real life.
I would rather open the weather app to see the weather or just turn on the phone to see what the time is or call someone to speak to a real person.
People that love siri are also the same people that love answering machines. Poor lonely people that dont like to communicate with real people and live alone.

Still, the port of Siri is nice. I had h1siri installed for the last month and it worked for the first day then stopped and never worked since.
As previously Siri DID work on all iDevices but Apple want to make money off it and limit it to the 4S so it can work on older iPhones but they just refuse to let it but when have Apple been nice and actually given older devices features that work on them? never, so I doubt they will ever let older devices have Siri and they will fight like they fight against jailbreaking to make sure older devices wont get siri.
The next IOS will have more security to make sure Siri doesn't work on older devices and they will keep upgrading their servers to make it even harder to connect so no matter how good the ports get it wont work for too long just like h1siri which worked for 1 day.

And about the legallity with the ports WHO REALLY CARES! Apple dont let it work on older devices so in their eyes its all illegal no matter how you port it. If you have a iPad, iPod or iPhone 4/3GS with Siri connecting to apple servers they will say its illegal so if its a legal or illegal port it doesn't really matter as Apple will sue you anyway as they love to sue people. Expecially the people that give them money to pay for the lawsuits in the first place. Think about it, you paid for your iDevice, you paid for the apps so that money goes to Apple and they spend it on lawyers to sue you when you do something they dont like. So if you dont want to get sued by apple stop buying their devices then they wont have the money to sue anyone.

Hmm so if a proxy can hold 10 devices I wonder if people will start renting the space out?

Oh and to the idiot's saying 'talking to your phone will make you look stupid'. Errrr... It's a phone! You talk to it all the time!!!

Someone want to post a full tutorial on how to get this fully working, mostly about getting the proxy working? When it comes to that, I'm clueless... Many thanks

      1. Buy one.
      2. Borrow one from a friend(every 24 hours for new keys EEKKK)
      3. Sit back and wait for a different solution.

Can't we get a key from decrypting 4S firmware? Anywho, this won't install on my iPad1; Cydia throws a gsc.ipad error. Meaning Chpwn isn't allowing this on iPads quite yet. This is awesome though!

No. The keys are dynamically generated. That is how you run the same program and get different keys every 24 hours. And yes, you are right about it not being for iPad. I saw it install on one over on ifans, and the result was cydia taking up 1/4th of the screen and it was froze up requiring a restore.

I wish I had an iPhone 4S so I could test this.. or access to a Siri proxy.
If anyone has setup a Siri proxy I would really appreciate a pm with link to it for testing it on my iPhone 4
Edit: It looks like ijailbreak are planning to setup a list of public proxies, but if one only holds 10 units this will be a problem :/ If you feel like sharing yours with me, I'd greatly appreciate it

Every 24 hours the 4S's validationData is regenerated. You can either use a server to pull it or actually pull it off the 4S everyday.

ok, i have a 4s (as well as my i4), my father and mother inlaw, and 2 sister inlaws have iphone 4s's. so i have 5 keys that i can use, but i need a tutorial that is easy to follow to do this. anybody know how to do this that can either run me through it or has any links to very understandable directions. i've seen some but they are talking about gems and all kinds of other stuff. also, correct if im wrong, but do you have to have a mac or linux operating system in order to do this? i thought that i read that somewhere. i hope that im wrong, because i only use windows. i have 5 keys that i can use, but have no clue where or how to set up this proxy server.

You need to have ubuntu linux in order to create the proxy

Am I one of a handful which is still completely happy with the 3GS? The ONLY aspect of Siri I would use is dictation for a text. Period. Everything else about it is dull to me. This is tweak that's just NOT worth it. My 2 cents though.

no you can do it on mac os x..

biggest problem is you need 4 keys... and these 4 keys need to be obtained by an iphone 4s using your own proxy...

it's not just the UDID you need... simple process though if you know wtf your doing... (i just need my friend to show up so i can take his ****)

Question, will installing the custom certificate on the 4S mess up using Siri regularly? Like would you have to go back and reinstall the stock one or would Siri still work anyway?

Ok this is a great step in the right direction but unless you're a coding and networking scholar good luck setting up this proxy server. I have 5 iPhone 4S's I could use "tokens" from but trying to setup this proxy server is very very confusing and quite frankly makes me feel incredibly stupid trying to follow the directions lmfao

Spire was not there any more and all of the big boss files did not load? Will wait and keep checking.
