One feature of Cydia jailbreaking newcomers may not know about is using it as a way to report bugs and crashes to the developers who upload their creations. If you're having trouble with a tweak you install and it frustrates you, all you have to do is tap a button and follow a couple of steps to tell the developer about it so hopefully they can fix it.
This guide is intended for beginner level jailbreakers and will show you how to email a developer to report bugs and issues with their creations using Cydia.
To begin, make sure that you have a jailbroken device with Cydia on your SpringBoard. When you open Cydia for the first time, the window will look like the one pictured below. You need to tap on the Search
tab; it has been pointed out below by a red bounding box:
After tapping on the search button tab, you will be brought to a white screen with a search bar at the top. Tap on the search bar where it says Package Names & Descriptions
to pull up the keyboard and search for the tweak
causing you trouble, then tap on it
to bring up the tweak description:
When you bring up the tweak description, you'll find a button that has the developer's name on it. It has an email envelope on it. Tap on the button named Author
as shown below by the red bounding box:
A window will appear after tapping on the author button which shows you the option to contact between one and three people. The repository (BigBoss in this case) can be contacted if you have problems downloading a tweak. Saurik (the main creator of Cydia) can be contacted if you have problems with payments not showing up. Lastly, the developer can be contacted if you're having problems with the tweak itself. To contact the author (Yllier in this case) tap on the Author
button as shown below by the red bounding box:
After you tap on the author button, you will be brought to an email window. We recommend you keep the information that has been automatically pasted into the email there. You can add your own words to the email but since the information automatically inserted is crucial to the developer, leave it alone. Type your email (writing a clear and concise description of your problem) and tap on the Send
Now, the developer will receive your email and all of your device's information so they can determine the cause of the problem and attempt to get a fix for it. Congratulations, you've successfully sent a bug report to the tweak developer!
