  • Pod2g and the Untethered A5 Device Jailbreak

Pod2g is just about done adding his finishing touches.

Everyone is excited about the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. But, what people are really waiting for is the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for A5 devices such as the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. There are still a great number of people using iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, and iPad (these are A4 devices) handsets, but there are still many using the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 which use Apple's A5 technology - a new processor where the limera1n exploit has been sealed.

The good news here is that iOS hacker, pod2g is looking to expedite his progress on the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for A5 devices (the A4 untethered jailbreak is finished already) by having the Chronic Dev Team help him with it. Pod2g mentions on his blog that he, "gave all the details to the chronic dev team so that they can finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jailbreak as soon as possible" and he made the promise that he will "put all my energy from now on on the A5." This means that the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 will be shifted into full throttle and be released very soon.

There are the impatient people out there that simply said, "gimme gimme gimme" when the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 for the A4 devices was built. However, releasing a jailbreak for the A4 devices and waiting for the A5 devices later on would have been a bad idea. It would give Apple the chance to seal the exploits in A5 devices while the A4 devices had their jailbreak. Towards those impatient people, pod2g had this to say, "Also, I know there are tons of people out there with A4 or even earlier devices who wants the untether now and don't care about it could be interesting to wait A5 is finished to release or even 5.1, so that we don't waste an exploit that took me months to find and develop. I need to focus on A5 and hope I can find a path quick, and I have the feeling that chronic-dev could help me."

With the combined efforts of the Chronic Dev Team and hacker pod2g, Apple has been officially pwned once more. Their attempts to seal off jailbreaking for good simply won't work because we have a dedicated team on the case after every iOS release. Hopefully by Christmas or as early as the new year, we may have our untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1. If you want to show your gratitude and thanks to the hackers who are providing you with these amazing features, we recommend that you do so by kindly offering a donation to them - even small ones if you would like. Hackers celebrate Christmas too!

How excited are you to get your hands on an iOS 5.0.1 untether for all iDevices? Share in the comments!

This coming from a guy who doesn't even know how HIBERNATION mode works

Regardless though it's just something for people like you to have something to write about, that's all.

Hopefully that release the jailbreak for the Verizon iPhone to. Right now I've heard they only have the gsm one working.
Where did you hear only the gsm A4 will work and not Verizon?

That's exactly my question as well. Are we clear to update to 5.0.1 on the 4S?

As much as I am appreciative of the hard work being done these mini updates of almost there and coming soon are anti-climactic to say the least. Just work on it and let us know when its actually done. I don't need to know four times in two weeks its almost done. Thanks again for the hard work.

After looking at the changelog for 5.0.1, I really didn't see any reason to update. I'm willing to forego the few changes to assure that I have the oldest (and likely most unlockable) FW available.

I'm not sure of the unlock that MuscleNerd tweeted about a whole back, but I thought it was 5.0 specific? I'd look it up, but I'm feeling like absolute crap from the flu, so my google-fu is currently weak.

I am not AS excited as my mother, since my device is A4, but my mother has a 4s.

I seriously doubt the jailbreak will be for 5.0 only. There would be a bunch of people that be upset if that were the case. Going off of what was the case for most prior jailbreaks, it will be for 5.0.1.

Stop being so tempting and release the jailbreak already, not that I'm impatient, its just killing my appetite is all. Wishing people merry Christmas isn't getting peoples hopes high and disappointing them( I certainly hope not, I have a iPad 2).

Scrooge says, "no jailbreak for your iPad 2!" And no, no second helping of gruel for you, either.

I don't think the jailbreak For the A5 devices will come out till the 5.1 firmware comes out.

I'll be jailbreaking (well, keeping my jailbreak) for the first time. I use to jailbreak my iPhone 3G, but it bogged down my phone to the point it was unbearable. I skipped the jailbreak on my iPhone 4 so it wouldn't bog down (and because I worked at Apple. I felt like I was betraying my employer!) I bet it will be über smoothe on my 4s!

My i4 didn't "bog down" with a jailbreak (my 3 did run slower). As for Apple employees, I've met a number of workers at Apple stores who have jailbroken their phones. And I think we are all aware of the fact that Apple engineers MUST be jail breaking their phones in order to get access to Cydia and test /reverse engineer the tweaks and apps they keep implementing into the "official" iOS.

Yea, what's this 'bog down'. If anything my ip4 ran more smoothly w jb because I could close all the backgrounded apps quick n easy with one touch in sbsettings. Apples multitasking implementation is so stupid. Miss the jb... I think I'd rather have the ip4 + jb than my ip4s sans jb. Naaah, but it's close.
