  • Pod2g and the Untethered A5 Device Jailbreak

Pod2g is just about done adding his finishing touches.

Everyone is excited about the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. But, what people are really waiting for is the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for A5 devices such as the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. There are still a great number of people using iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, and iPad (these are A4 devices) handsets, but there are still many using the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 which use Apple's A5 technology - a new processor where the limera1n exploit has been sealed.

The good news here is that iOS hacker, pod2g is looking to expedite his progress on the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for A5 devices (the A4 untethered jailbreak is finished already) by having the Chronic Dev Team help him with it. Pod2g mentions on his blog that he, "gave all the details to the chronic dev team so that they can finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jailbreak as soon as possible" and he made the promise that he will "put all my energy from now on on the A5." This means that the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 will be shifted into full throttle and be released very soon.

There are the impatient people out there that simply said, "gimme gimme gimme" when the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 for the A4 devices was built. However, releasing a jailbreak for the A4 devices and waiting for the A5 devices later on would have been a bad idea. It would give Apple the chance to seal the exploits in A5 devices while the A4 devices had their jailbreak. Towards those impatient people, pod2g had this to say, "Also, I know there are tons of people out there with A4 or even earlier devices who wants the untether now and don't care about it could be interesting to wait A5 is finished to release or even 5.1, so that we don't waste an exploit that took me months to find and develop. I need to focus on A5 and hope I can find a path quick, and I have the feeling that chronic-dev could help me."

With the combined efforts of the Chronic Dev Team and hacker pod2g, Apple has been officially pwned once more. Their attempts to seal off jailbreaking for good simply won't work because we have a dedicated team on the case after every iOS release. Hopefully by Christmas or as early as the new year, we may have our untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1. If you want to show your gratitude and thanks to the hackers who are providing you with these amazing features, we recommend that you do so by kindly offering a donation to them - even small ones if you would like. Hackers celebrate Christmas too!

How excited are you to get your hands on an iOS 5.0.1 untether for all iDevices? Share in the comments!

Seriously it is not a rumor but a fact straight from Pod2g. He said it himself. And for your comment about donating you don't need to tell anyone you did or are ping to because you most likely won't.
They posted this to let us know that for owners of A5 devices that the jailbreak is just about ready an that the A4 devices are done.

So now we have an idea of how much work this is taking. In the last story about this, several people posted that pod2g was getting plenty of money because he'd gotten an iPhone and iPad from donations. What would that cost, maybe $1200? "Several months" work at, say, 2 hours per day, at maybe $10 per hour would be that $1200. Does anyone really think he's working just 2 hours a day on this? Or that $10 per hour is really good money? At a guess, "several months" work at, more likely, 5-10 hours a day, even at that same $10 per hour works out to $3K-$6K. Not especially good money, assuming he even got that much from the famous "donate button."

No, I think he's doing this for love. You can be sure that the engineers at Apple who are putting in the blocks to jail breaking are getting more than $10 per hour.

So a happy holiday to him, an atta boy! to him, a hip hip hooray! to him, a thanks! to him, and now patient and smiling waiting until he is good and ready to release what he's accomplished (and I have an i4, so my jb is finished).

Something to keep in mind though is that it takes Pod 5-6 months staring at a wall tapping on a castle wall trying to find a weak point. Then six months laterwhen he finds it he says ok guys here's the hole! Come on in!.

Now you go to the apple side inside the fortress and the town crier runs around saying They found a way in! and the guard runs to the hole where the jailbreakers are crawling through and puts a fresh layer of cement there.

Now pod has to spend 6 more months tapping away at the wall again. So yah, pod is way underpaid for the amount of work he has to do compared to the apple guys.

How do you know if I will donate or not donate? I have donated in the past so I don't need you telling me what I won't do.

Pod2g is a genius and all that do what they do to provide us with a jb. Merry Xmas and Happy Holidays to them and don't work too hard and enjoy your holiday with the family. We'll all still be here patiently (most of us) waiting.

No one is accusing you of pirating just because you want a jailbreak

The A5 has been out for ages and still no jailbreak so WHY are they holding back the unteathered for A4 devices which was said to be finished a week ago?
There are more people with A4 devices than A5 devices so to make the majority happy they should release it for A4 devices then when they finish the A5 jailbreak then release that part of it.
