  • Pod2g Shows Us Even More Progess With the iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak

The untethered iOS 5 jailbreak is so close, you can almost taste it.

Are you excited for the iOS 5 untethered jailbreak? We know that pod2g has been working on an untethered jailbreak for some weeks now and he had a successful untethered jailbreak on both iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1 on the iPhone 4. This means that we will definitely have an A4 untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1. Pod2g has also been working hard on A5 devices. What we know right now is that pod2g is close to finishing a successful and stable untethered jailbreak for the A5 iPhone 4S and is working hard to make it as fluid and bug-free as possible. He was tainted by a cache issue, but after taking to Saurik, he was able to shift into four-wheel drive and roll right over that tough terrain.

Pod2g has released another video on his blog, this time showing us an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1 with the untethered jailbreak that he has been working on. He mentions on his blog that he added the video to try and kill off any rumors that the untethered jailbreak was intended for older iPod touches and not for the newer iPhone 4. You can see from the video that the device is indeed running iOS 5.0.1 and not iOS 5.0 which means that it is certainly safe to update your iDevice if you haven't already.

While we will don't know exactly when the jailbreak will be released, we are hoping for a Christmas time release or sometime close after. We don't want to rush these hackers in their job because if they aren't taking their time and being careful with their skills, they could miss something important that could cause a stable jailbreak to simply topple over on its users. Since pod2g is close to having an untethered jailbreak on the iPhone 4S and because we've seen that it's possible to have an untethered jailbreak on the A5 devices (Comex's jailbreakme hack worked on the iPad 2), we have no doubt that an iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak is almost here and we will surely be there to tell you about it when it comes out.

There are many, still, that would give anything to have at least a tethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S because so many people upgraded to the iPhone 4S from the iPhone 4 this year to take advantage of the new hardware specs and camera features. A tethered jailbreak is one that makes you use a computer to boot up your iDevice after you turn it off while in the jailbroken state. The only way around using the computer to boot up the iDevice has been using BigBoss's Semitether hack which lets you boot up with native iOS features but no access to jailbreak features. Only A4 device users have had this luxury thus far. As there are currently no bootrom exploits for the A5 devices, there is no ETA for any tethered jailbreak.

My advice to you? Stay patient. Be supportive. Donate to the hackers if you like. It's coming and it's going to hit the ground hard. When the untethered jailbreak comes out for all of the iOS 5.0.1-running devices, what will be the first thing that you install from Cydia? Share in the comments.

Some more than others, but nevertheless, they aren't hurting. Pod is doing an amazing job, and I for one hope he holds out on the release to include the 4S and iPad 2. But the dude got a 4S and an iPad 2 through donations! I mean...we the users bought him 2 brand new iDevices. I'm not trying to take away anything from him, or insinuate that he or any of the DEVS owe us ANYTHING, but in all reality, there's no point in scolding the children for making sarcastic remarks, or demand he release it, or insist he ignore 4S/iPad2 users so that they can have theirs, because they're just kids and leaches who DONT donate. I have a hard time staying away from comments on any of these stories because they all say the same thing! They cry their little butts off because they can't jailbreak their old and ancient devices with an untether option. For crying out loud if it bothers you SO much go tethered!! How often do you turn off your phone?!! I NEVER do! I don't know anyone who does! LOL

On a side note can people please stop saying Sunday Funday? I can't even remember the last time a jailbreak was released on a Sunday that was predicted as such. Secondly-he never said he was releasing it THIS coming weekend/christmas/sunday funday/ or any other date.
Dude he is trying to work on both if you read his blog you could obviously see that he is trying to get an untethered 4s it takes time and patience. He is going to release the a4 untethered first since they don't even have a working untethered jb got a5 devices

keep up the great work man. To hell with the 4s and the A5. One step at a time, seems like people cant grasp that concept....that and patients. Im probably the only person here running the oldest OS and firmware because i knew the OS5 J/B was going to take time. And that is the only reason why i didnt buy a 4s. Everyone probably bought a 4s and updated firmware thinking a j/b would take a couple of hours to create. Now theyre all upset cause theyre stuck with factory settings.
Putting pressure on these guys to hurry up is not a good idea. These things take time and need to be perfected before released. Or this forum will be full of "OMgz my iphone is stuck on recovery...blah blah blah.....

I was in the same boat as you were. I decided to upgrade to 5.0.1 and don't regret it. The newest iOS has some nice native features. AS previously stated, you could always tether it for now.

No truth in this statement whatsoever.
Actually, check this out from iCrackUriDevice's blog
Earlier today pod2g confirmed that he encountered some A5 cache issues when trying to create his untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2. Luckily he’s moved passed those “roadblocks” and has been able to proceed with the development of his Jailbreak:

OK, figured it out, the A5 cache is not a problem anymore.
I sorted it out by doing the untether in a single thread and by flushing all the dcache then all the icache in a row at a strategical point of the process.
It took me like a hundred of tests to find the key. Hard for the nerves.
As you can tell by this bit of encouraging news, it’s quite possible that we’ll see pod2g’s Jailbreak in the form of a public utility sometime in the near future.
pod2g is working on the A5 (4S & iPad 2) jailbreak, so he kinda has it, and it has some sort of truth it the Christmas day part, as we know that it will be released at a time very soon to that time

So, the statement is not a lie, but rather a misunderstood version of the truth

I haven't updated to 5.0.1 yet. After messages when it was released stated not to update, I've been hesitant to go through the upgrade.

The battery problems didn't seem to be fixed for sure, and I never came across the changelogs, so I'm just staying safe currently.

I just want tethering back for my galaxy tab.

I have an iPhone 4 and am on iOS 5 (not 5.0.1), so will the untethered JB work for me too, whenever it comes ?
I do not see any issues with the iOS 5 so i do not intend to update it to 5.0.1

The ONLY issue with 5.0 is that Apple is not signing this version anymore. Update to 5.0.1, you'll be fine. Follow the guides here.

Just update. It won't hurt since there's an untether coming soon.
