On Thursday, Apple issued a software update for the second-generation Apple TV. This takes the beloved little set-top box to version 4.4.4. As of this writing, the update - build 9A406a - brings with it yet-to-be discovered improvements and modifications.
In November, the last Apple TV software update was released (4.4.3), bringing with it support for Netflix streaming in Mexico and other minor audio-related fixes. For now, until more details become available, it's a safe assumption that version 4.4.4. delivers some pretty straightforward tiny bug fixes that won't rock the Apple TV to any substantial degree.
Also today, Apple released what is an equally mysterious modified version of iOS 5.0.1 for the iPhone 4S. This slightly tweaked version (Build 9A406) also appears to be incredibly minor and indicative of a larger forthcoming effort in future iOS 5 updates.
As we understand it, this barely tweaked version of iOS 5.0.1 isn't showing up for many users presently running the original version of iOS 5. It does, however, appear to be offered to those upgrading to iOS 5.0.1.
We will provide more details as they become available.
