  • Pod2G Has An iPhone 4 On iOS 5.0.1 With An Untethered Jailbreak

Feel free to update. We guarantee you that your iOS 5.0.1 A4 device will be untethered.

Earlier this week I reported that Pod2G said that the iOS 5.0.1 firmware (which is the current iOS 5 firmware) would be able to have an untethered jailbreak. As of tonight, less than an hour ago, Pod2G has confirmed that he has an iPhone 4 on iOS 5.0.1 with an untethered jailbreak. This means that you are safe to update to iOS 5.0.1 and you will be able to have the Chronic Dev Team's untethered jailbreak. You do not need to stay on iOS 5.0 to have the untethered jailbreak.

This takes the load off of a lot of people's shoulders because many were concerned that the only way to have an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak was to stay on iOS 5.0. Many rushed into using iFaith to save their APtickets and SHSH blobs to built custom iOS 5.0 firmwares to be able to restore back to iOS 5.0 whenever they would have to. Now, those of you who did so can take a deep breath and simply update.

This comes with some good news. Since iOS 5.0.1 can have the untethered jailbreak as well as iOS 5.0, you won't need to install any tweaks to get rid of the OTA (Over The Air) badge and additionally, iOS 5.0.1 closes some security exploits which means that iOS 5.0.1 will be more secure. The choice is yours, but I would rather just update and have the fresh jailbreak when it comes out.

Will you be updating to iOS 5.0.1 now that you are guaranteed an iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak? Share in the comments below!

Who tells people to update before the jb is even released? What are you thinking? Premature is an understatement. You need to be more responsible with your reporting. Telling them to update at this point is ludicrous and you need to keep your bad advice to yourself. I'll upgrade when Pod2g or Chronic says it is available.

I'm sure they will have an untether jb for the 4S, it may take some time though, seeing as there's a variety of devices that have to be thoroughly tested on, I'm greatful that the dev teams hold back on the jailbreaks to make sure they are completely stable before releasing them, some people post saying its "ridiculous" how long it takes for these jailbreaks to be released, and what's really ridiculous is how much work they put into all of these tools for us, they don't charge us, they don't really ask for anything but patience, and the community criticizes, not all, but some, oh well I guess that's the way it is, I'll be patiently waiting for the 4S jailbreak, and thanks for the update status on the iPhone 4 jailbreak progress

Jailbroken... Still haven't made up my mind about updating. My jb is good... All my apps work...
      Not sure if
5.0.1 will be worth it either...
      But very intrigued!!!

Everyone but AT&T will unlock the gsm radio for you, plus factory unlocked sold almost everywhere makes a software unlock almost not needed. They've already shown one way to get by the lock on the 4s anyways.

Tethered is fine. Too much hype against it. You can still repring and install most cydia withoutva reboot.

The first article said that Pod2G claimed it would work. This article says that Pod2G has a working untethered jailbreak on his iPhone 4.

So the first one was based on word, this one is based on a working tangible iOS 5.0.1 device.
      Oh, ok gotcha.

Can't wait for the release! Great job to chronic dev team, once again! Until the public release, however, I'll be sticking with my 4.2.1 iPhone 4. No point giving up the jailbreak just to experience iOS 5 before it's jb'd. IMO - that's not much of an experience.

Tethered is actually a good thing. Most dont realize this. Tethered = bootrom exploit = always jailbreakable. Untethered more often then not means update kills it.

Yes it will. If you update, it only updates the software. It doesnt delete any media. It will hide all your jailbreak tweaks and cydia though, until you rejailbreak.

Update question: iPhone 4 greenpoison jailbreak 4.2.1. When I upgrage to 5.0.1 and then this jailbreak is released to the public, will cydia, mywi and all other apps get reinstalled? Will my registration for apps that I bought get remembered?

Yes it should. Just re login to your existing cydia account when you update and rejailbreak.
