Apple Announces Free Shipping in U.S. for Online Orders Through December 22nd
"Cyber Monday" - the online shopping equivalent of "Black Friday" - brought with it a pleasant surprise from Apple today.
The tech giant announced that it will provide free shipping on all orders (in the U.S) placed online from now until December 22nd. As you are probably well aware, free shipping in the past usually required a purchase of at least $50 or more. The new holiday shipping policy effectively removes any minimum purchase price to enjoy the benefits of free shipping.
On Monday, Apple updated its online store page to reflect the change. All told, the move is just one component of a broad digital retail strategy to attract more buyers to the online storefront throughout the 2011 holiday shopping season.
Other familiar incentives - analogous to those offered in previously holiday shopping seasons - include: free iPod and iPad engraving, "signature gift wrapping," and the always-popular build-to-order Mac configurations.
